Indeed they did. Not quite as ambitious a rehab as the Lizard suite, but it was awestriking. I suspect that Jakko can sing absolutely anything. So damned beautiful.

Jakko kicks ass, especially when you consider he's singing stuff originally voiced by singers as diverse as Greg Lake, Gordon Haskell, Boz Burrell, John Wetton and Adrian Belew.

Before the 1981 King Crimson reboot, there was the Fripp solo album Exposure. I say "solo," but cuz this tune featured Fripp on guitar, Tony Levin on bass, Narada Michael Walden (Mahavishnu Orchestra and a host of others) on drums, and Peter Hammill (Van der Graff Generator) and Terre Roche (The Roches) on vocals.

3. And speaking of the Stones, it's way too easy to forget that Ronnie Wood is a helluva guitarist. Here he is pre-Stones, along with Rod Stewart and a pre-The Who Kenney Jones.
4. Finally, who sez the classic Genesis lineup couldn't write short songs. (OK, this one's part of a concept piece that filled two vinyl LPs, but still . . .)

Reupping this as I've been reading more about various music scenes in central Europe:
Yugoslavia had a massive synthwave music scene encouraged by the Communist Party as a thing for the youth to move on from the old stodgy communist anthems (The party also considered punk as a useful critique.) Anyway, this is a sampler dish from 1984 on to about 2011 of Balkan synth:
So, Bulgarian rock. Epizod is a band that takes from epic war poetry, and Bulgaria has a great deal of that. This tune is about the battles in the Shipka Valley with some corny movie footage. Singer has decent pipes and seems a little too intensely into it while the rest of the band looks asleep. That aside, competent rock song with a corny but fun video.
Funk bass god Rocco Prestia of Tower of Power died about a year ago. That video brought to mind a performance by another now-deceased great bassist at the same festival years earlier:

This personal moratorium on indoor concerts is getting annoying. First is was no Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets in February. And this morning I found out it'll be no Opeth/Mastadon/Zeal and Ardor in December. I've never seen Mastadon live, but Opeth and Z&A are superb concert bands.
