LOLOLOLOL to people in DC who got fancy new drones for Christmas.

You Don't Own What You Bought: Drone Maker Updates Firmware On All Drones To Stop Any Flights In DC | Techdirt

How many times are things like this going to happen? Where manufacturers sell people something and later push some update that intentionally removes some or sometimes all of the functionality they bought it for?

I mean, shit, there are people in the comments at Techdirt who seem to think this is just fine.

Forever?

Until people understand what open-source is all about?
Wait, I already said that.

iFixit has uploaded their teardown for the Apple Watch. The results may surprise you.

I decided to resuscitate an old thrad for this, and I chose this one because of some tangents on surveillance capitalism. But also, kill switches obsolete things.

Man, maybe I should have made a new thrad after all, but I just really don't feel like it.

BARR: Biden’s ‘Infrastructure’ Bill Contains Backdoor ‘Kill Switch’ For Cars | The Daily Caller

I could have obfuscated the source, but I decided not to, because most of the information in the other coverage comes from this piece by Bob Barr on The Daily Caller.

I would, however, like to see the actual text to make sure he's not wildly misrepresenting it, but I can't find it. Somebody else go get it for me, please, because I don't feel like that either.

This seems to be the bill in question but I don't see any references to it in the BBB.

Someone read lisarea's post and tell me if I should be interested, because I don't feel like it.

Looks like it is a separate bill that has just been introduced but not passed, as far as I can tell.

Barr is not wrong about what that bill would do, and not wrong that it is an absolutely nightmarish idea, but I can't find any indication it's in the infrastructure bill, or has advanced beyond being introduced.
