Looting is not a capital offense, so yeah, he's essentially threatening to have U.S. citizens murdered. But perhaps more worrisome is the dog-whistle.

This is all horrible, but could be great long term, as expected has no subtlety Trump is pulling out all the stops and calling for all the military invading america crack downs, like 3 - 4 days into protests.

But with the cops “Oh we’re violent eh, well we’ll show you violence!” responses basically proving the marchers, these protests will continue for some time now, and Trump will have already over extended himself on the first week.

It’s been really interesting watching the cops bungle all of this as well. Years ago during the Occupy protests the cops and media were a well oiled machine, to the point where the media leaving was a sign the cops were getting ready to get illegal/violent. Then the next day they would publish a cop press release hyping any damage while appending an arrest number.

Here is seems there are a number of white, alt-right provocateurs that are getting caught on video doing the damage for the media to later cry about, while the cops then come in and tear gas the media live just in case there was a chance to salvage the old narrative.

They seem to think the white moderate who cares about order over justice are somehow on the side of wanton disorder so long as it wears a badge, and I don’t think that’s going to be the case.

The polls seem to suggest that Trump's response is not helping him.

Law and order could work for Nixon... but for one, Nixon wasn't the incumbent, and a Democrat was. LBJ dropped out of the presidential race because of how unpopular he was. Trump is persistently unpopular, and he's staying in. And they didn't have smart phones showing the police blatantly beating, gassing and shooting at journalists and peaceful protesters without provocation. There are videos of police pushing elderly men with canes to the ground, or casually breaking the windows of parked cars... not in the middle of chaos, but on an uncrowded street with no smoke, people who weren't even involved in protests, much less riots. It's hard to uphold the lie that the police are just upholding order rather than a large* source of disorder themselves... when you can see clear video of them aiming and firing right at a news cameraman down a basically clear street.

And his hiding in the bunker and getting in spats over Twitter policies and using tear gas to set up a photo op at a church (including gassing clergy from that church!) isn't going over well either.

The RCP average for Trump vs. Biden is now showing the biggest lead for Biden of 2020, with a clear upward trend over the past few days as post-protest polls have started coming in.

So while I understand being apprehensive about the effect of these events, it isn't at all clear that it's going to help Trump. A lot of people are seeing what we're seeing.

*The greater source than the rioters/looters/vandals, imo, but there are definitely some people going with the intention of causing chaos and/or attempting to delegitimize the protests. We already know that Twitter suspended a violence-encouraging account posing as "antifa" that was actually run by white nationalists. Given that some of those agent provocateurs may themselves be police, even that group isn't clearly separate. (That isn't to say that no sincere protesters are rioting as a reaction to police escalation, or a general lashing out, or even as an intentional strategy.)
