Thumbup Who Says All Teenagers Are Apathetic?

I doubt anyone here has ever said it, but just in case you've thought it in moments of despair, this blog should cure what ails you. Nirvana3240 talks politics with the best of them. This is my favorite entry so far:

Quote:
There is a bias in the media...but I do not think it is a liberal bias. I think its a corporate bias and a bias towards senastionalism. They want stories that get headlines. They want stories that people talk about. What would make a better headline? A story about a sitting president, or a man who wants his job? I think you know the answer. About the corporate bias...I think the media just selectively report stories and shoot them from an angle that fits them. Whether it be a conservative or liberal bias, its different from story to story, but I do not think there is a uniform bias.

About CBS in particular, I dont think they went out to "get the president" or knowingly used the fake documents to "bring him down". Purely and simply, I think it was bad journalism. They messed up, end of story. They should be penalized for the mistake, but I do not think they were intentionally biased.

But the trouble is, if you say "There is no bias" then you are immediately accused of being biased yourself. (Thats just an observation, I myself am for sure biased.)
As soon as we get our links page up he's going to be on it.

How old is he? Quite observant and right on the money...it's not about liberal or conservative...it's about sensational. What's gonna sell papers, or get ratings, period.

I don't know, actually. I've looked around his site but couldn't find anything. I've also emailed him about this thread, so maybe we'll get lucky and he'll show up to answer for himself. :)

I know! I was a little faux right winger because it was the 80s and I thought it was cooler to be all greed is good and fuck everyone else. I also really like how passionate and dedicated nirvana3240 is. I was such a jaded little bitch. It's awesome to read him when he gets on his soapbox, like when he went off on Halliburton:

Quote:
When asked about this, the Republicans say "Well what does that have to do with the Presidential race?! We should be talking about the issues!" But you see, I think it is an issue...as the Republicans say, "Its about values" they use John Kerry's post-war activities to say "Are those the type of values you want in a president?" Well, then I think we can use Cheney's escapades at Halliburton to show his "Values".

Cheney's years at Halliburton indicate he is willing to put other priorities before America’s national security. He is willing to sellout his country's principles for money. Does going through a loop hole in American sanctions to do business with a country that is a notorious enemy of the United States all for financial gain sound patriotic? Does it sound moral? Does it sound like a good set of values?

Hey, cool! Welcome to FF, Nirvana3240. I have a question: do you actually sift through a gigantic pile of news stories every day? It definitely looks like you do. What are you preferred sources?

Hello and welcome! I hope you'll stick around and let us get to know you. This isn't a huge board, yet, but the majority of us are active in many places on the 'net, and can promote your site when topical :)

y'know, nirv...

I'm an old geezer. I was in the last year to be subject to the 'Nam draft. I got a low number and couldn't get a deferment out, 'cause they didn't exist any longer. I was called in for the physical. What fun that was. I figure literally dodged that bullet when General Hershey called the whole thing off the following month.

So...What with the thinning ranks of the National Guard, who are seeing a great deal of on-the-ground combat in Iraq, what do young men, and women, of your age think of the likelihood of the reintroduction of a military draft? Do you think either potential administration is likely to institute such a measure? Is one considered to be more likely than the other?

Very nice blog, Nirvana!

One teeeeny little anal nit pick, though: Shouldn't the line under the title of your blog not have a comma in it (ie "this is what democracy looks like")?

I read it as a pause, but yeah it should probably be an ellipsis.

This... is what democracy looks like.

I dunno about this. He's in Minnesota, he's liberal, but he hasn't linked to my weblog. What's wrong with him?

Thumbup Re: Who Says All Teenagers Are Apathetic?

You're 16?!

Holy shit, you're brilliant!

When I was 16 I was smokin' pot and chasing boys. The news was just one of those boring programs on the telly that old people watched, and newspapers were made to wrap fish'n'chips only - not for actual reading.

God, I hope my daughter grows up to be more like you and less like me. :yup:

Oh, and welcome to FF. :)
