In some ways I’m glad it’s all a con, a tease, to make it seem like the viewers have access to the stripper on stage or the model on TV, but it’s all fantasy, a one way relationship.

Jan 6th was their civil war, as taught to them by the media, they show up, cheer and the people who play the actual game become so energized they hulk out and win. Just like they defend themselves from the government by making a purchase, and fantasizing about it.

I doubt there are many civil war supporters who see themselves as front line fodder, but instead as the big damn invincible heros, and the best way to keep that fantasy alive is to insulate themselves in their tiny castle eventually murder suiciding their family so others don’t get the chance.

Alabama is appealing the order to increase potential black congressional representation as it will lead to segregation.

“Absent a stay, the State will be compelled to cede its sovereign redistricting power to a court that will intentionally segregate Alabamians based on race,” Allen wrote in the stay application to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

This is of course not what segregation means and we know this because if this would cause segregation, Alabama would have done it already.

“The [Birmingham] District Court has made clear that the only acceptable remedy is one that splits the Gulf Coast to ensure that enough black voters in the Gulf Coast are combined with enough black voters in the Black Belt to guarantee a majority-black district, or something quite close,” Allen continued.

But the Black people would still live where they already are and the only thing that would really change is potentially the number of Black representatives.

There is an argument about how making majority Black districts allows other districts to ignore Black people’s concerns and potentially increases polarization, but that’s not the argument that Allen is making. Also of course, gerrymandering in general is about packing and cracking. Packing is squeezing as many opposition voters (in Alabama that’s largely Black folks) into one district and then spreading around others into smaller chunks that are overwhelmed by majority voters (cracking)

So as much as this is real, gerrymandering already results in some segregation.

I know Boeber is GOP and the party is pretty openly the party of misogyny (misogyny does exist on both sides but it’s a plank in the GOP’s platform) so this is a leopards ate my face moment.

But just because we expect sexism, doesn’t mean we should accept it without comment.

The same people who are okay with Trump’s sexual assaults and despicable behavior and were okay with all sorts of nonsense from Boebert are now wagging their fingers at her.

There is I suppose photographic or video evidence of Boebert, but I think the genders matter in how people are treating this as well.

Also, I sort of wish the guy was someone who was an otherwise upstanding citizen in the eyes of her Republican colleagues. There's probably a decent number of people who will believe she was being "groomed" into her inappropriate behavior by this guy.

There is undoubtedly a disconcertingly high number of voters in that congressional district (which covers almost all of western Colorado) who'll vote for Bobo thinking "It's only a matter of time before she gives ME a tuggie in public!" There's also incumbency, and she's a two-termer at this point.

But, that district got somewhat redder during the 2020 redistricting, and Bobo got reelected by all of 549 votes. The Dem who ran against her in 2022 is running again, and got his campaign up and running almost immediately after the 2022 result was final. Dude knows what kind of campaigning works in that district, and Bobo has been an utter trainwreck as a legislator and a human being since then.

I realize that doing stuff for your district isn't a sine qua non for a long career in the House. The tenure of sociopath Ron Paul is proof of that. Bobo is also practicing the fine, time-tested GOP art of taking credit for stuff she voted against. Still, and completely contrary to my nature, I am hopeful about this race.
