Steven Wilson is passing the time between now and anticipated release of his new album in January 2021 in cool ways. After posting a video showing off his home studio and introducing his family, he's been making stripped down versions of new and old songs. Here's one from the new album, followed by a 19-year-old Porcupine Tree tune followed by a song from Wilson's first solo album.

I am ashamed to say I didn't know the Love and Rockets version of this was a cover.

That was good. This version is a lot cleaner.

With the chorus there too, I was hoping they were going to segue into "Requiem for Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, 2 Mixed Choirs and Orchestra." I'd have paid money to see that.

Here's a couple of equipment failure tunes. First, a simple broken acoustic guitar string:

And not one but two fried electric guitars:

From their 2002 album Unlistenable. Track from what would have been their second release on Slash Records, a remake of the The Cars first album which the record execs refused to release because the demos were "unlistenable."

Before that I was listening to their first full-length on Boner Records.

Carla. Bozulich. Rocks.

This one reminds me of Bradford Cox's solo stuff.

An early 90's project, Ethyl Meatplow.

This.

This new song is straight up gorgeous. This rendition features some fine harmony vocals from Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet/Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets fame.

Liz Harris actually, though most of her stuff is filed under the name Grouper.

Also came across this 1976 interview of Keith Emerson by none other than Oscar Peterson.

Still a bit resistant to the fact that these guys are gone (Oscar Peterson included, not just Keith Emerson and Greg Lake). From ELP's first live performance:

Adam Wakeman's latest(?) project is Jazz Sabbath, complete with a mockumentary of the jazz band from the late '60s, from whom a certain so-called "Heavy Metal" band stole music (and 7/11ths of their name) from this long-lost, one and only album, recently discovered. The jig is up, guys.

IOW, he put out an entire album of Black Sabbath tunes as instrumental jazz pieces.

Here's the first song I heard; I've always thought this one would be a hell of a jazz/prog cover. Correct, as always.

Here's the documentary:

That is goddamn awesome. On one hand, Adam and Oliver Wakeman might get far more props if their father weren't a keyboard god. On the other hand, they might not have become musicians at all if their father weren't a keyboard god.
