I didn't think it would become quite so :popcorn:worthy. I would have put it in another thrad. But in keeping with the level of respect I have for the OP:

Atmospheric dust may have hidden true extent of global heating | Climate crisis | The Guardian

Quote:
Atmospheric dust has increased by about 55% since the mid-1800s, an analysis suggests. And that increasing dust may have hidden up to 8% of warming from carbon emissions.

... “What this research shows is that so far, we’ve had the emergency brake on.”
So, all we have to do is eject another 26m tons of dust into the atmosphere and bingo, warming stops.

And I have a feeling we'll have to do something like that. It's pretty clear that we are failing dismally at getting all nations and industries to cut emissions. Much as it pains me to say it, we may have to accept that the self-centred billionaire polluters will carry on polluting, and rely on a technological solution involving atmospheric reflection (the dust thing), carbon sequestration, and so on. Not that any of the proposed solutions work yet.

Who needs all that topsoil anyway?

Big problem with geoengineering "solutions" like dust cover is that, like GHG induced warming itself, the system is much more complex than fiddling with a temperature dial. For a simple example, GHG warming is more pronounced where and when it is cold, e.g. the Arctic, at night, winter. Dust cooling is presumably most pronounced where and when it is sunny. So, even if we can balance GHG warming with the with dust cooling on a global scale, the distribution of heat across the planet and through time would be different. Probably that would influence wind and rainfall patterns, etc. I'm not up to speed with the current state of climate modelling but I suspect we still can't even predict those kinds of changes on regional scales very confidently.

I just looked outside and checked my thermometer and it's the same temperature as yesterday, therefore global warming is false.

It is right now in winter, 4C in Juneau, which is in Alaska, therefore global warming is true.

The last I checked, Juneau is part of the U.S., so what's with this "C" business.

If metric was the way to go, then time would be metric. Having one system for mass/space, but a different one for time, is ridiculous.

How about an atomic clock? Just like other metric systems of measurement, it's based on a repeatable scientific process instead of a arbitrary unit of measurement.

"Thunberg: The People in Davos Are at the Core of the Climate Crisis"

She is not wrong about the rich assholes causing the problems.

But climate change isn't one of them. (just a distraction to keep the gullible busy)

However, she is dead wrong about "the solutions" coming from the bottom. Nobody at the bottom is going to make electric vehicles, solar tiles to power them, and spaceships to get the hell off the planet.

Climate change is as fake as her recent "arrest".

But for the wealthy and the powerful, Greta is a useful tool. Keeps the ignorant busy while they are running the world.
