When I'm addressing the newbies, I use your full name so as not to confuse them, rather than one of the pet names I use while you're in pillow-biting mode.

Re: Say Hi, Gracie (ie, Newbies Say Hello Thread)
Another refugee from IIDB. I think what is happening there under the present leadership is tragic. For me, as for many others here, the banning of Ms. Stopper drove me here. I have valued her contributions and, like others, have no knowledge of the basis for the IIDB action. If they have a case they should make it in public, and I would hope that Ms. Stopper would deprive them of the excuse that doing so is infringing on her privacy rights. Even if they should have a case, I find some of their public statements very disturbing. Particularly galling was the statement by The Other Michael on the laws on corporate governance and how the directors had the right to do pretty much what they want. While he in probably correct on the law, he and the rest of the leadership should recognize the dependence of the corporation on the community that has been created and should recognize that the cause we share is promoted by strengthening the community and that providing for meaningful input from the community serves all of us except a few authoritarians at the top.
A remarkable forum has developed in IIDB and I have seen nothing as rich, stimulating, and valuable in other atheist and nonbeliever websites. If it is to be lost, other forums, such as this one, should try to encourage the wide-ranging discussions that have taken place there. I don't think any of the others are there yet. (Sorry, FF.)
I could bore you with my personal grievances, but I'll save that for another time. My introduction is heavy and serious, but my vulgar side will surface soon enough.

No problem, Dick. We don't actually aim to be an "atheist website", although many of our members are non-theists. If you're interested, you can find out more about our philosophy and history here.
I hope the late unpleasantness isn't too troubling to you in the long term. Welcome to FF.

Welcome to Dick Springer.
As liv said, this isn't necessarily an athiest forum. It's a freethought forum. So, basically you can say what the hell you like and you'd get away with it too if it weren't for those pesky kids.

Re: Say Hi, Gracie (ie, Newbies Say Hello Thread)
Now I'll follow your template:
1. How'd you find the Freethought Forum?
From IIDB.
2. Are you a member of any other online forums? Which?
IIDB, for the moment, with a slight hope for changes.
Rants 'n Raves, which is fun but with less serious content than I would like.
ClothesFree Forum, because my wife and I like to run around naked.
I have joined other forums, but I have not participated very much.
3. How do you feel about smilies (emoticons)?
I dont care much either way.
4. How do you feel about 3500+ smilies?
Bored.
5. Flaming is:
C. Irritating as fuck
6. Vulgar language is:
A. Hilarious
7. Why did the chicken cross the road?
Morbid curiosity.
8. Who pays for your food?
I do.
9. What's one thing you've always wanted to do but never have?
Have sex with 72 virgins, but blowing myself up is too high a price to pay.
10. What is your single favorite place in the world?
Our rooftop hot tub with an ocean view.
11. What's the significance of your username?
My real name is Meredith Nehrbas Springer. It was chosen by may parents, not by me, and made my childhood much harder than it needed to be. As soon as I left home and was with new people, I gave my name as Dick. Freudian analyses of this choice are welcome.
12. What about your avatar?
Huh?
13. What is one thing about you that is worthy?
I am no longer a slave of public opinion.

Welcome Dick. Tell me, was it a looooooong labour? Were you a large baby? That is the most common reason for "unusual" baby names.

No need to apologize. We don't aim to be an "academic" site in the style of IIDB, so we're pretty happy with the range and quality of the discussions we have.

Re: Say Hi, Gracie (ie, Newbies Say Hello Thread)
FIRSTLY thanksy all for them welcomes!
Ooooh questions to answer. It bes bored. Looks amusing.
Here goes.
1. How'd you find the Freethought Forum?
Blame Seebs.
2. Are you a member of any other online forums? Which?
Oh lordy too many to list.
CF/4U, ~Elsewhere~ in IIDB (where we take refuge from the idiocies apparent in CF/4U), UC, PS, OF ... and no not gonna disclose them acronyms. many fingers in many pies ...
3. How do you feel about smilies (emoticons)?
It likes them staying about this size:
It does NOT like big huge ones or stupid looking ones.
4. How do you feel about 3500+ smilies?
Your search engine isn't working properly (in Firefox anyway) ... can't see them.
5. Flaming is:
Not what many claim it is, that's for damn sure.
6. Vulgar language is:
Fucking inevitable, particularly if you are livid and would like to express yourself WITHOUT flaming ... the ability to say "fuck you asshole" goes a LONG way in this regard, saves breath & time, and avoids a string of insults trying desperately to make up the difference.
7. Why did the chicken cross the road?
Because it was in its way and on its path.
8. Who pays for your food?
Economically? This one does, usually. Sometimes its fiance.
9. What's one thing you've always wanted to do but never have?
If it really told you this, none of you would want associating with it.
10. What is your single favorite place in the world?
doesnt have one yet. likes teh beach, likes caves, likes big sprawling moldy old graveyards in the fall. likes the woods, the lakes, the mountains. likes its cozy playroom at home.
11. What's the significance of your username?
It bes Fritz Springmeier's worst nightmare.
12. What about your avatar?
Heheheeh right, like its gonna get into that with non-theists ...
13. What is one thing about you that is worthy?
The Voices that talk to me don't "respond" to medication.

Re: Say Hi, Gracie (ie, Newbies Say Hello Thread)
The search box doesn't work for you? Now that's a crime against humanity. Try this: pick one of the categories from the drop-down menu and click search. This should populate the window with all the smilies in that category.
Alternatively, type a keyword in the box and click search. Perhaps there were no smilies for the keyword you first tried?
On an unrelated note, gotta love graveyards. There's a thread around here somewhere about my favorite one. Ah yes! Here.
Welcome again, Moriah (you're on fiyah).

! I'm glad you got the smilies to work for you, Moriah. They're just too awesome to miss out on.
Just curious, why do you refer to yourself as "it"?

If I haven't already said this then welcome to Moriah.
Regarding the larger smilies, I think you may need to visit Auntie.
