Arizona state Rep. Joseph Chaplik (R-Natch) wants to know why, if masks are so goddamn important and effective, didn't we wear them in the 80s because of HIV and AIDS. Huh? Why didn't we?!

ANSWER THE FUCKING QUESTION.

Watch Piers Morgan string together a stream of non sequitur.

Texans facing those unexpected bills were hoping that Texas' utility regulator would retroactively reduce the electricity market prices. But on Friday, the state's Public Utility Commission chose to let the charges stand.

It might seem like retroactively reducing the charges would be good for consumers, said Texas PUC Chairman Arthur D'Andrea during Friday's public meeting. But, he argued, that reflects a "simplistic" view of how Texas power markets work.

"We just see the tip of the iceberg," D'Andrea said. "You don't know who you're hurting. You think you're protecting the consumer and turns out you're bankrupting a co-op or a city. And so it's dangerous, after something is run, to go around and redo it."

The PUC itself had authorized the wholesale price increase, hoping it would spur power companies to generate more electricity. But according to the state's independent market monitor, prices were kept high for much longer than necessary.
Texas Utility Commission Won't Reverse Charges From February Storm : NPR

So lets be clear, the PUC jacked the price up to maximum hoping to encourage suppliers to produce more electricity LOL

This was laughingly stupid and as a result consumers of electricity were fucked with no upside, because it wasn't like the electric grid was operating below capacity and they would just produce more power if they were paid more.

meanwhile end consumers of their deregulated only to the state line of Texas in order to avoid federal regulations power grid have contracts where they assume huge risks for a very small savings.

But the thing is, while it is a fucking mess, if you protect the consumer who has that fucked up electric bill because of shit beyond their control, you do indeed protect them even if that protection bankrupts the person's creditors.

Another way of saying that is that you think you are protecting the consumer and you are.
