Good job! Seriously, trying to be all healthy and shit, and not just say fuck it, especially during the holidays, is easy to write, but hard to do.

Also this thread was a good idea, I was curious how long I’ve been on the agro inducing but very much helping B-vitamin regime, and I remembered I posted to this thread. I’m starting to feel like I have a brain again.

I did some walking this weekend, way more than I usually do. I felt it the next day, but it wasn't too awful.

We were at Disneyland and toured the LA area for the past 9 days. Despite eating out 2 meals a day last week, I think I lost some weight. It could be how much walking we did, but I expect a lot of it was water weight, so we'll see what happens once I'm back on my regular hydration habits.

Default Re: Mental and Physical Health and Wellness Track, 2022

What the fuck, how is it December? One more month to go before this thread makes any sense.

I'm doing alright. I have been journaling daily, for the most part. I think I'm losing weight, at least my clothes fit a little looser. Half the new clothes I bought are too big, but that's probably equally due to weight loss and my having bought too-big clothes in the first place. I erred that way since I already have more than enough too-small clothes (like I said it's fucking hard to shop at this size), and it's easier to wear too-big clothes than too-small clothes.

Anywho... I'm still not drinking on the day-to-day, but I did imbibe a little over Thanksgiving. I'm not going to say I can't cope with my family dry, but I definitely didn't wanna. Very liberal interpretation of California sober, but I'm owning it. On Thursday dinner I switched to water after two drinks, and it was like 3:45 in the afternoon so I was like daaaaaammmmn. Good thing weed is fuckin legal.

I want to run, I want to run so bad, but I tripped and fell for the third time in 4 months and racked the fuck out of my ankle, so that's still not happening. I'm registered for a "virtual" 5K Santa Run in December that I'm going to do with my mom when she's in town, so we'll see how that goes. Definitely probably going to be some sort of run-walk situation, the question is just how much run and how much walk.

My walk to work is half as long since we moved, but that has actually resulted in my walking more, because before I would be tired and want to sleep in so I'd ask bey for a ride, but now we live close enough to the shuttle stop that it's barely faster to drive than to walk so I walk it every day now.

Okay, that's all I have for now. How was everybody else's Thanksgivings? I'll check back in again closer to New Years, and we can do the 2022 thing for real.

Exciting (for me) milestone to report. Mom and I did our 5K yesterday, and we did indeed do a fair proportion of running in our run/walk intervals. I'm pretty sure that's the first time since April 2020 that I ran a longer distance than across a parking lot. I'm a little tender and sore today, but I managed not to aggravate any of my recent injuries, nor acquire any new ones. The fear of that was definitely holding me back, so I'm happy to have broken through that.

The rest of it is garbage, though. Eating not great, drinking too much again, but it's the holidays. WHEEEEE.

I bought myself a new fancy 2022 planner, so I'm looking forward to cracking the spine on that in a week. In the meantime, my chincy-ass compo book that I grabbed from the supply cabinet at work remains a proof of concept that, yes, I can keep a journal on the daily if just fucking sit down and do it.

I'm having a rough time. I slid off the WW wagon again, and without a working car, getting to the gym is hard. I'm thinking of doing the best I can for now, and really gearing up and getting serious for the new year.

ES, you are doing awesome - good for you!

Hey what's up, it's 2022. I'm back at work today and my mental health is in the tank. This job stresses me the fuck out, but at least I had a nice breakfast.

Mom went home the beginning of last week, and with the exception of ringing in the New Year with bey, I've basically just been sleeping. Now that I'm back at work, I regret not having done something more fun or productive with my vacation, but I really do love sleeping.

I have netted about 10 pounds lost since starting this thread, so that feels nice, like physically. I'd like to keep that going this year.

This is the journal I am using, and it's fucking dope (jump to 1:05 for the punchline ):

I rolled the dice and got the extra-large B5 size. If I don't love it, I can always switch back to A5 next year.

10lbs is great and with the holidays being there, it's really stupendous.:tiphat:

Unfortunately I've gone the other way and put on 12 pounds in the last month. With the holidays and being back in Canada it was a double gorge fest.

But I have come to join this thread and try to keep myself accountable with some monthly updates. Sou asked me what my new year's resolution would be and my answer was to weigh less at the end of every month than at the start. Even if it's just 1 or 2 pounds.

I weighed myself Jan 1st in the morning and we'll see what I'm at on the 1st of Feb. Usually the start of losing weight isn't that hard for me, the real challenge will be doing it all 12 months.

I got a lot of exercise shovelling snow last week, but overcompensated by eating too many Xmas sweets, and I haven't been able to take the dogs for walks. I'm up a few pounds.

Yeah Ensign, 10 lbs is a huge win. I was over the moon that I weighed in 1 pound lighter on January 1st than I was on Dec 8th. I consider it a miracle of the gods that I didn't GAIN 10 pounds over the holiday.

I am also wanting to lose weight, but decided to start by simply not eating like a wild boar all day and night. So, since the 1st I have been limiting my eating to three meals between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. That said I haven't been super careful with how MUCH I eat at those times and I've been allowing myself a scoop of ice cream after each dinner, so I won't be shocked if I get on the scale Monday and have lost only one or two pounds (or none at all, frankly). I will be surprised if I've gained, but I don't expect that.

I re-watched "Fed Up" with my sister last night so my anger at the sugar industry has been rekindled, so I'm hoping to leverage that to eliminate the nightly ice cream.

As for physical fitness... I've been doing pilates twice a week for... I don't know, a few years now? So I'm not completely sedentary. I was also doing a series of situps/pushups/squats about 4 days a week until early December, then took a break for the holidays and may or may not start up again.

Mental fitness? I'm in a weird place, but probably not significantly weirder than anyone else. As per usual I am simultaneously highly motivated by a few specific interests and happy to die any time, should the opportunity arise.

I feel like this should be the official :ff: measure of dietary intake.

I got on the scale yesterday for the first time since 1/1 and I was down 7 lbs. It's obviously encouraging but not unusual for me to lose up to 10 lbs after I shift from constant binging and excessive sweets to eating like a somewhat normal human for a week. This week I will continue to eat like a somewhat normal human but instead of a small bowl of ice cream for dessert at night, I'll have an orange. :crossed:

Well, it's time for me to seriously get on this bandwagon. Due to the pandemic and my taking advantage of DoorDash, Grubhub, etc. for the past two years, my doctor tells me my cholesterol levels are WAY up. Consequently, I've been googling foods to eat in order to reverse this.

Of course, those foods are boring, difficult to make, expensive, or all of the above. (Dear gods, when did salmon get so pricey?!)

That leaves me with exercise, which I've always hated but I find that change easier to make than dietary modification.

Anyway ... Hello, my name is Sharon, and I'm an unhealthy slab of meat.

I've been doing pretty well with avoiding desserts and restricting my food intake to an 8 hour window each day, but I took Indian food to my Mom's the night before last and it was too spicy for her and my sisters so I had a ton of leftovers. As a result I have overeaten the last couple days. Still feeling ok about it though. I'll try to tighten it up over the weekend and hopefully still have good news on Monday.

Narrator: He did not tighten it up over the weekend.

I'm down one pound this week, which is essentially the same as break even. This is what I expected given how my week went. I stayed mostly within the boundaries of intermittent fasting and avoided ice cream, chocolate, etc. but between that Indian food and then Chinese food on Saturday I knew the calorie count was just way too high.

I also ate a lot of Outshine fruit bars at my Mom's because low calorie and hey, how bad can "fruit" be right? Come to find out Outshine makes two varieties: The kind my Mom had (9g of added sugar per popsicle) and a "no sugar added" kind. The latter are what I'll be buying for myself from now on.

On that note did y'all know that sometime in 2020 the FDA (or USDA?) started requiring food producers to put the amount of added sugar on the nutrition label? It's decades too late but glad to see it.

:stunned: In 2020?

I'm guessing the president at the time didn't have any cronies in Big Sugar.

Default Re: Mental and Physical Health and Wellness Track, 2022

I have also been doing the 8-hour thing and have been surprised with how well it works for me. I had managed to go down 14 Kg between April and December with 1 Kg to go to my target, gradually letting go of the time restraints towards the end of the year, and then Christmas came and I not only plateaued but started backtracking. I did all the other stuff of increasing exercise and counting calories, but it was not until I went back to the 8 h window that I started getting results again.

It probably suits me well while it might not be ideal for others because I hate exercise and honestly I snack more than I eat (because it rarely makes me feel as ill as most proper food does), which makes most diets and lifestyle changes hard but as food is a thing that causes me a lot of discomfort and grief, NOT eating for hours on end is actually a blessing. I have never enjoyed breakfast anyway and have learned to avoid food for a few hours before bed if I hope to sleep well and to not suffer a lot of discomfort while trying, so I do think that 16:8 thing is the best option for me. Many people are horrified by it, though, and can't imagine skipping breakfast or not eating just before bed. But feels-wise, I prefer a mild hunger to how I feel for a several hours after eating.
I miss stretching the eating time a few hours to have some morning coffee or tea, though.
