My neighborhood (constructed in the 1980s) was about 50%. Up to that point in the Pacific NW, A/C was not considered a requirement for new homes. We had it installed after two hot summers.

Most new homes have it installed - the average temperatures during the summer have been rising, and this week in particular is bad... Highs in the 30C range - today was a high of 33C.

I am currently wearing a sweatshirt and shorts, because the downstairs is cold when the main floor is trying to be cooled to a temperature that Mrs. Reasons can stand.

We have a couple window units for spot air conditioning, and an evaporative cooler that covers most of the rest of the main floor. That's it, though.

In fact, I've never had whole house AC anywhere I've lived.

I wish, though. I can't sleep comfortably if the temperature is above about 50F/10C, so I have spent many summers perpetually miserable and sleep deprived.

My current house has an in-wall unit in the family room, but nothing in the rest of the house. That's not unusual in Michigan but I haven't lived anywhere without central air in a very long time, having spent most of the last 20 yrs in Texas and Georgia. We have a "whole house fan" (which some call an 'attic fan') that did a good job of creating airflow throughout the house before the motor burned out. That being said I've only had the a/c on a few days so far this summer. I guess living on a lake it doesn't get as brutally hot indoors as it does in some places.

We only have two portable a/cs and they suck. (Technically they suck and blow.) In the Pacific Northwest a/c is not standard. Though most places have them and all new places are built with them. This house was built in 1975 and didn't even have central heating, but someone added that between now and then.

Thankfully today is supposed to be the last 100+ degree day and things will cool off. Right now it is a fantastic 70 but I know things will be heating up quickly so I am ready to close up tight at a moments notice.

I remember Las Vegas in the 90s going from my grandma’s fancy house, to the air conditioned garage, to the air conditioned car, to the underground and air conditioned parking garage, to the freaken air conditioned tubed walkway between the garage and the fancy restaurant, which was of course air conditioned. It felt a bit like living on Mars where we could travel about without ever interacting with outside un treated air.

It was ridiculously hot and humid here (90F and 85-90% humidity) for the past week but yesterday and today it has been downright chilly.

We had unseasonably cool weather for the first part of August. Had.

Now it's crazy stupid motherfucking hot. 101F, 38C, every day since last Friday. But it's a dry heat! 12% humidity. Fucking Arizona shit, man. Tomorrow is s'posed to be merely too fucking hot, at 94F / 34C, and trend downward the rest of the week -- but you can't always trust the spostas.

In four hours this morning, we got something like 3.7" of rain, which is over 25% of our average annual rainfall. The basement only flooded a little.

It at least temporarily cooled things down some, and we needed it, but it's still scary how crazy everything has gotten so quickly.

The lowest it got here was 0F with a "real feel" of about -30F the day before yesterday. It was all the way up to 10F yesterday. The forecast has it up to 53F by next Friday.

We didn't get that much snow, though. In fact the ground wasn't completely covered until this morning.

The next time it will get that warm will be Tuesday or Wednesday.

We got a few inches of snow a couple days ago and it was only like the 2nd or 3rd time this winter (so far) that shoveling was required. It's 30F now but supposed to have a high of 36F today and drop to 20F Tuesday.

California had a big storm, snow, snow everywhere! Except for my place, I got no snow, but we did get lightning, one of which had no delay, the light flash and boom happened at the exact same time. I think it hit power equipment as the power was unstable and eventually went out to the entire giant apartment complex. It was odd to wander down pitch black hallways, after awhile someone went through and tossed glow sticks along them.

It’s back up and now I get to go through all the “trapped in snow” posts on the intertubes.

Well, the last snow was just a fluff. Now we get a few days 40's in the daytime, but sub-freezing nights. The driveway will be a mud-pit during the day and an Ice Rink at night.
I love this time of year.

My driveway only required shoveling twice this winter so far. That is incredibly weird for Michigan. We had a big ice storm a couple days ago and ~4000 power lines were down. 500k DTE customers were without power, yet somehow we were unaffected.

WooHoo! Got the RV dug out. We can pack up and head for dryer climes. Though not sure where that is. Even Death Valley is flooded.
