Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
Also how did I not notice that the actor that played the 1890s detective is the same one that plays Syril Karn on Andor. I thought he seemed vaguely familiar, but I never looked it up or figured it out until I heard it on a podcast. I was like omg I love that guy.

At first I thought the show was made by someone who saw dark, then I found out it was based on a comic book that was written by someone who watched Dark.
Bodies the comic book is a few years earlier than Dark, so time travel was used.
Closed loop time travel is of course a classic idea.
My head canon stops at episode 7.

For All Mankind comes back next week for its final season. It's had its ups and downs but when it's good, it's really good.

I'm still sick but couldn't sleep, so I put on Warrior Nun season 2. There's a plot, but it's basically "pretty women dressed as nuns fighting people." I know this wasn't renewed for a 3rd season, so I don't have to care.

Yeah, I was reasonably intrigued by Season 1, but the 2nd seemed a lot more by-the-numbers. Not enough monsters either.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
Vudu had a sale on the "Preacher" series. I've been interested in the concept of the series for a while, and it was a license for 5 seasons for $25.
I've watched most of season 1, and I'm not entirely sure I like it. It's interesting, but also not a lot happens, and it's not as quirky as it thinks it is. Since I paid for it, I'll certainly keep watching, just to sate my curiosity.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
I really like Preacher! But most of what I like about it is pretty fucking problematic, and I could definitely see it not being everyone's cuppa tea.
I don't remember which arcs are in which seasons, but on the whole the show is kind of all over the place, so maybe you'll find something to really like or really hate in the follow on seasons.

"All over the place" is a good description. My impression is that I like most of it, where the characters (and the actors that play them) are much, much more interesting than the plot, which veers between "cool and funny nihilism" and "edgelord nihilism." I predicted the season 1 climax to the extent that I knew that it wasn't going to work like Preacher hoped it was going to, although I wasn't expecting the even more nihilistic ending even though it's hinted at throughout the season.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
Netflix Making a Murderer. I watched it first because I wanted to watch Dailywire+ Convicting a Murderer. I know I'm a right wing fake news nut job, but if I watched both series with no idea about who was on which side of politics, I'd been really intrigued, not only about this case, but about ANY real crime story that is set in documentary form at all. Yes, Candance Owens hosts it( and people think of her at best as a pot stirrer) basically narrates it and produces it. But, if you watch it without that bias you might be surprised. I doubt any of you have dailywire subscriptions but if there is ever a way to watch it i would recommend. btw, even when I watched the Netflix version, I thought Steven Avery did it.
So now, every time I watch a netflix thing, I'm like, okay what the stuff they've edited.
and go ahead and question the sites integrity, but if you put it side by side by Netflix, I think it's basically the same.
This production has nothing to do with politics at all.

I am also watching Fargo on hulu. New installments and new episodes every Wednesday. It’s 6 episodes in so good for a binge. And Juno Temple is fantastic.

If you’ve ever watched Fargo the series it’s based on the movie which is based on a true story. The new episodes are also based on a true story but happened in 2019 and in Minnesota.

The Fargo thing about 'based on a true story' is, and always has been, completely fictional.
However, that didn't prevent me enjoying the film, and the TV series I've seen. I think I watched at least three Netflix series, but I don't have Netflix now.

Watched both the 1990s and the 2017 installments of Jumanji with the kid, it was sort of entertaining. Also watched the first episode of the netflix Bodies which sure does start with a premise. ("Three detectives discover the same body in the same place, in 2023, 1941, and 1890.")

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
I'm slowly getting through "Preacher." I hit a lull in the show and didn't get back to it for a while. The second season has its ups and downs, and I think is ending on a upswing.
I also have been watching "Reacher" (no P) on Amazon, and while it's 100% fascist, it's pretty entertaining as an action series and procedural mystery.
I also watched the first three episodes of "Good Omens Part 2", and it's pretty fun and intriguing. I sort of forgot about this new season, probably because I was actively reminded of the 1st series by following Neil Gaiman on Twitter.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
The 2nd season is no Good Omens Season 1, but how the hell could it be - that was based on the book by Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. But credit where it's due, it's still fun to watch.
As for Mrs. Puppet and myself, we're finally getting around to House of the Dragon. It's better than I expected, although my expectations were fairly muted to begin with.

First season is OK. After that it becomes fairly predictable, with a shitload of Sibling Rivalry, and the Dragons reduced to big cranky plot devices.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
This last season of Bob's Burgers they've decided to throw a bunch of old sitcom tropes out the window and I'm loving it!
A few episodes ago they focused on Regular Sized Rudy and his divorced father. His father could have been made a pathetic loser and the brunt of the jokes, but instead he's awkward but still caring, and we know he ultimately loves Rudy.
Then the most recent episode, Bob used his own smarts not the family or a fate to find his annoying but overall well meaning friend. Rarely does it feel like the jokes are at the expense of other characters.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
After seeing the buzz on the documentary that aired on Max, I watched both seasons of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace.
I agree with Slate's article, The Dirty Tricks of Natalia Grace, which pretty much sums up how I felt after watching the show.
If you haven't tried to watch this, I recommend reading that article first. But if you have watched it, I'm curious what you think.

Re: What are we watching this Fall, y'all?
Season 4 of True Detective is on. I LOVED the first. Didn’t much care for the second. Really liked the third. And now it’s maybe 5 episodes in to the latest and I like it. My husband doesn’t. He’s got a man crush on Matthew McConahay . But this latest season—filmed in Alaska during the 40 days of night —is pretty good and definitely dark. But I really like Jodie Foster and haven’t seen her in anything for a while. We have this thing at work where we givesa blurb and pictures of themselves and answers a few questions. One of the questions is “who would you pick to play you in a movie?” And my answer is definitely Jodie Foster.
