Re: JD - Facebook
I have one, but I don't really know how to use it. I tried to add Farren, but it didn't work, unless I'm just waiting for him to approve the add or something. Anywho, I'm ensignsteve on there, if anyone wants to add me.

Re: JD - Facebook
I love facebook and myspace. Lurve. Although I am old and slow and do not use them adequately to inform the universe of my every move and thought. (Believe it or not.) Feel free to friend me if you know who I am, or can figure it out.

Re: JD - Facebook
I've been meaning to look at Facebook since reading an article about it in Wired. I think I'll do that now.

Re: JD - Facebook
JD - added! It was just waiting for me to confirm the reqest. Anyone else wanna add?
p.s. No facebook whores now. I don't want to be adding people I barely know (I've had a bunch of requests from my nephew's friends who I've met once and people I worked with years back for like a month and never saw again. what's the point?)

Re: JD - Facebook
I've registered but I don't know whether I'll ever use it, so I'll hold off establishing any connections for now.

Re: JD - Facebook
vm, got any old friends you want to find? 'Cos that's half the joy of facebook. You connect with friends and they're connected with friends and trawling through their profiles you pretty soon turn up people you'd lost hope of ever seeing again. That, or join the networks that people set up (like "Rockey Street, Jhb, party animals") I connected up with three peeps I thought I'd never see again that way. Had drinks with one of them who moved to the UK, then Sweden, two weeks ago.

Re: JD - Facebook
I found seven family members immediately. I feel pretty confident that nobody else from my past wants me to find them.

Re: JD - Facebook
I suppose my situation is unusual. I've moved among several very different circles of friends and seen something like 70% of them scatter to distant shores. Only half the time I didn't even notice on account of personal shit going on at the time, then later got all teary eyed about the fact that we lost contact.
Oh, and just after Apartheid crumbled, I moved to a bohemian suburb in Johannesburg that was always a hotbed of low art and political activism and it happened to be the place where all the peace corp types, student travellers and so on who'd come over to see the "South African miracle" happening ended up. So for a brief time it was a really vibrant, multinational community, a really magical place to be. I forged so many cherished but ultimately transient friendships there with Americans, Nigerians, French people, Koreans, Australians and so on that I really, really miss.
So facebook is awesome for me. Within a day of joining, I got hold of two people who were like, I don't know... mentors, as in, rotated chunks of my worldview 180 degrees.

You never know, they might want to know the new you or some fellow traveler may have gone on the same path as you.
I've had friends with years of addiction and prison reconnect and it's been nice to have some one who not only knows who you are now, but what you were then.

Re: JD - Facebook
I've had a profile for a while, but I log in only when I get emails about friend requests. I don't think I've ever actually done anything but log in, accept the requests, and log out.
