Listen to podcasts in the car on the way to work, instead of the dumbass radio... Interesting!
So this week suddenly became April vacation by executive decree last Friday, decreed by the same person who, as state treasurer 15 years ago, totally gutted the state retirement system for teachers. Next Monday, also by executive decree, we (as in me and every other teacher in the state) are supposed to be doing "distance learning" with all students, with no training or much idea of wtf we're doing. Should go fine, just fine.
Also, I should have bought more sliced cheese and pepperoni when we were at the store yesterday cuz it's like, all gone now. And also also, rain is impeding my plans to do the April yard cleanup this week. But since we can't really go outside or anywhere else, me and the kid are up to the Matt Smith/Jenna Coleman era of Doctor Who. Neither of those fine actors could help that Stephen Moffat is actually a moron disguised as an executive producer and a writer. It has also been fun to watch my eleven-year totally dismantle the imbecilic stories that make up this series...she definitely has a future as a satirical content-creator.
It's still snowing. A lot. I can't estimate well, because it's still coming down, and the melts and drifts are making it pretty uneven. But probably 6-8" so far?
In other news, Flossy had that gum problem worked on and it might not be as benign as we thought, so she is recovering from sedation and we're waiting for biopsy results. That was the only house-leaving today, though, and we wore our masks.
I ran 3 errands today, so I guess I'm not so isolated. I went at non-busy times and didn't experience any human stupidity. Everyplace I've gone so far has been following protocols; lots of restaurants and coffee shops are still open, but offering only takeout, with the tables and chairs stacked up, leaving plenty of room to mill about and not be up in anybody's face.
I went to Trader Joe's for the groceryish items we needed, and it was plenty active, but not packed, and I had the choice of 2 checkers who had no line. I went with the one who spoke to me first. Nobody even honked a horn in the parking lot, so maybe some of the tension is easing, at least locally.

Cancelling our trip to Hawaii (were to have left next Saturday). DIL is a doctor, and will be working next week at two facilities with > 100 confirmed cases. Waiting to talk to someone at the first of two airlines.
This Saturday marks the second week IN A ROW that I couldn't get a full compliment of my Oatly oat milk.
I am officially mad at corona beer virus right now.
Do you have any regular oats? Because it's pretty easy to make oat milk. It might not be as good as your preferred brand, but it's something.
I have made and in the future will make my own oatymilk. I've been sitting on something akin to oatly's recipe. Just waiting for a good reason to use it.
Oat milk is indeed dead simple to make. I'm just doing my little part to encourage the invisible hand to get more companies to make it. Oatly just happens to be my favorite blend of the ones that are (or were) available in my area.
My coworker came and sat on my lap when I was trying to work. She started making annoying noises for no reason so I told her to "get the fuck off!" and she ran away looking all butt-hurt. I felt bad about it for a second but then she kept making that stupid noise so fuck her.

I used to love oats but then I heard or read somewhere that oats now are all covered in glyphosate or something and then I didn't check to see if it's true or not and now I'm afraid of the allegedly poisoned oats and don't eat them anymore, including by drinking them.

Oatly claims to source oats that are glyphosate free. I'm not saying you should try it, but if you want to try a good oat milk. Well, you know what I'd tell you.
(Note: I don't drink oat milk naked, by itself. I use it in coffee and smoothies and the like.)
Holy shit, WTF? I hadn't heard that before, and shit.
I'm kind of struggling right now with the impulse to hoard stuff just because I don't know what's going to happen, and one of the things I have plenty of is oatmeal that I now learn is lousy with fucking Roundup.
I've done OK so far. I manage to get to grips and remind myself that it's OK and we're much better equipped for this than most people probably are. And now I'm questioning whether I should buy a bunch of safer oatmeal to replace the bad kind I have ten freaking pounds of. (That's normal. I keep a lot of oatmeal here because I make a lot of stuff out of it, and I'd just gotten a big box of it at Costco before this started.)

At least one of the school districts here had to send a message to all the parents to please get dressed if they are going to be visible in the background of their children's lesson video meetings.
In related news, a vary popular Finnish alcoholic drink brand that is trying to make it internationally is now using the Finnish concept of "kalsarikännit" in their advertising.
"Kalsarikännit" is drinking (enough to get properly drunk = 'kännit') alone at home, in your underwear (='kalsari'), with no intention of going out.
Day #840 (very approx)
07: and a bit - get up, have breakfast
08:00 first conf call, with people in their homes in Russia and elsewhere in the UK. In dressing gown. No video.
08:50 shower. Attend to emails.
09:30 second call, with just one Russian guy. Still in dressing gown, but clean. Still no video.
10:00 get dressed. Because. Attend to threads.
10:45 (now) get more coffee, consider next conf call at 11:00. Also won't have video. Basically we don't need video.

Roundup could be the hero in this story, when no one that eats oatmeal contracts Covid.
The Finnish government has conceded that parents are hopeless, and is now allowing kids in grades 1-3 (ages about 7-9/10) to go back to actual school if they want to.
I'm not used to being home during the day. Monday-Friday I'm at work and weekends the Mor-Man and I are out and about. There are thunderstorms and high winds rolling through rattling all the windows, in a creepy, forboding way.
I still have imaginary aches and a fake cough, felt hot and took my temp 97.7!!!!!!! like not even 98.6, I can't even be sick correctly.
My new co-worker arrives at lunchtime, I hear she sheds.

Was this because parents really wanted their kids at home, but were useless about it ... or because parents couldn't stand having their kids at home and complained ...
Woke up at 4:30 AM. Couldn't go back to sleep; the CA governor ordered a statewide lockdown last night and I have a client who just closed a construction loan last month. I wrote to remind him that, if the lockdown halts construction on his project, he needed to send a notice to his new lender invoking force majeure.
Then I got up, ate an avocado (ripe, this morning), drove to the bank to get some cash (5:30 AM), came back and finished breakfast (brie, kale, and coffee). Called the second of my two airlines, got through without a wait, and cancelled the trip home from Hawaii (full fare credited to an account with the airline, good for travel within a year from when we booked). Now, all I have to do is cancel the hotel reservation. They open at 7.
