The good news: I'm now a full-time employee instead of a contractor. Yay, bennies!
The bad news: My title says I'm a developer but my daily tasks are customer support. Bah

It's Arthritis Awareness Day!
Not officially. My stupid joints have just decided that they must make me aware of arthritis today. Stupid body.

Belly Up, in Solana Beach, offered this series of live-streaming concerts for $99. Mrs. S and I sprung for it. We're currently watching the first of the series.

Re: What's up with you?
Kitchen island with breakfast nook arrived on the stoop from the jungles of Amazon.com. I picked this one out because unlike many others, the reviews said all the parts were well-labeled, the assembly directions were not written in Cryptic and all the parts and hardware fit together reasonable well. Also has a folding leaf, so when I am not using for eating I can drop the leaf and have more room to walk past.
Since the old place had a built-in kitchen island that served as the dining room table, I didn't have anything to bring with me to the new place, just the extra stools I bought for sitting around the old island when there was company. Soon I will be able to retire The Kid's folding maker-table and the deck chairs that have been serving as our dining room furniture since we moved in. Plus more storage space in the kitchen, which is always useful.
Am about a third to one half done assembling it and so far the reviews were p. accurate, pretty easy to put together.

Tonight's show is Dead Man's Party, an Oingo Boingo tribute band. Logged in on the big screen, waiting for the music to start.

Re: What's up with you?
I have a lot of grey coming in since marrying the Mor-man. So much that I couldn;t keep up with box colour.
Yesterday I had my hair done silver! Silver like the MOON. 7.5 hours to do it. 10am start, finished about 5:30pm. 650.00 later (Canadian so like nothing US) and it is spectacular.

Forgive me for the presumption, but that sounds like the kind of thing that warrants a photo.

Re: What's up with you?
So there I was all sleeping this morning when this VERY LOUD NOISE -- like a huge truck rolling by my apartment -- totally woke me up! But it was several times the vibrational intensity of a huge truck and it lasted about 4 times longer than it would take for a huge truck to drive past. Kind of wondered when the shaking and the noise stopped if it could have been an earthquake.
Turns out that's exactly what woke me up from my sleep this morning.

Re: What's up with you?
Inorite?
In other news, one of my students has tested positive for Covid-19 and I have been deemed a close contact. Even though we were both wearing our masks his desk is just slightly over 6' away from mine for our 90 minute class and I was helping him with the essay he was writing for some amount of time during the same class. So "in an abundance of caution" the state DOH ordered me to quarantine for 14 days from last Thursday, starting yesterday. I feel fine though -- I took a PCR test yesterday and should find out the results of that tomorrow. If that comes back negative and I continue not to have symptoms I need another PCR test next Sunday and then I should be able to go back to work next Friday, unless the second test comes back positive. As far as I can tell anyway, from what I've been told on the phone from the different people from the DOH that have called me.

Re: What's up with you?
Picked up my new glasses last night before going to watch The Kid at her dress rehearsal for The Nutcracker, which is taking place on Sunday, the day before the governor's big two-week" pause closes down stuff like that. There's only one performance (instead of the usual three) and it's all distanced out -- every other row with like 6 or 7 empty seats between audience members, but if had been scheduled for next weekend it probably would have been cancelled.
Not sure about the glasses though -- I've had progressive lenses before but with this pair the shift to reading glasses seems to be taking place where I look straight out, so to get the full long-distance correction I had to tilt my head down and look up out the top of the lenses when I was driving to the rehearsal last night. Ended up taking them off on the way up, but after wearing them at the rehearsal they didn't seem that bad on the way home. Didn't drive anywhere today and Lenscrafters is closed for Thanksgiving anyway, but am going to test drive them some more tomorrow. Might bring 'em back, I'll see how they work when I'm driving around tomorrow.

Mr Curses is in need of the same thing for reading and they were trying to sell him on these transitions. How is your peripheral vision in them?

Re: What's up with you?
Depending on the frequency he shifts between close and distant vision work, he might find a separate pair of glasses works better. I've tried bifocals, and I like progressives for driving (good distance vision but also good for reading the instruments / radio / satnav) but for reading books or longer sessions on the computer, I prefer my closer focus glasses. Those eliminate all the head tilting - I get a nice sharp focus on anything between about two feet to four feet away over the whole field of view through the lenses: I can see things further away well enough to manage, but I just swap my glasses to a distance pair when I go out or watch TV. Nowadays I only wear my contact lenses when I'm going to fly my model planes. I get slightly sharper distance vision with the contacts, and when flying I want the best vision I can get.
