Trump had demanded that aides prepare an ostentatious ceremony at the base, accompanied by a sprawling audience, but two weeks after Trump incited a riot at the US Capitol, he got neither. The soon-to-be former president arrived at the military base just before 8.30am, and was met with a flat sendoff marked by a sparse crowd.
Quote:
Senior Republicans had shunned the event, including the House GOP leader, Kevin McCarthy, and Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, in favor of attending Biden’s inauguration, and the audience for Trump’s final sendoff far from filled the small viewing pen that the that had been set up.
Quote:
Trump, who has not left the White House for over a week, had reportedly spent recent days in a dejected mood, but according to CNN, the outgoing president had been “eagerly anticipating” the sendoff event.
Instead, Trump seemed sombre and lacking in energy as he addressed his crowd, perhaps disappointed by the scale of the event.
The rest of the article (also) reads like an obituary.
Trump pardoning a guy indicted by the Trump Justice Department for defrauding Trump supporters over the fake Trump wall is a fitting ending to the Trump presidency.

I am just sick thinking about how people are going to try to brush the whole thing under the rug. Like showing up at the inauguration is some kind of redemption arc for traitors and collaborators and apologists.
If we're going to have anything like 'unity,' it has to be a united front AGAINST them, not with them.

This! I’ve been laughing all day now that the man who’s slogan was “stop the steal” pardoned the guy that stole from maga supporters as his final action.
Makes a fella queasy recommending anything from the National Review, but Witless Ape Rides Helicopter is worth a look.

A rather good read, at least until it gets to this part:
