One of the things that occasionally rattles around in my head is how the Victorian/Edwardian upperclass gentlemen was portrayed as showing intelligent and worth by having an opinion on basically everything and how that’s affected our views when trying to emulate the upper class. Followed quickly by thoughts about how Sherlock Holmes is not real, nor in any shape or form a detective.

Today is my sister's 60th birthday, so my mom now has six living children in their 60's.

My 65 year old brother in law died last week. My mother in law is 93. She kept making comments about when her time will be. I wonder if she is afraid of the idea of children and their spouses dying before she does. I think that would be a real hard thing to bear.

I'm not sure where I originally heard about Little Amal, but I walked with her last night in Ann Arbor. I don't know how to calculate the positive social impact, if any, of such an event, but it was at the very least a good feeling to be surrounded by other people who presumably give something of a shit about the plight of refugees in the world.

A few days ago, I was falling asleep to a podcast, as I am wont to do. It ended, then it went into a promo episode or something of a different podcast. I was already pretty drowsy, so I was like, "O.K."

It was (another) one of those NPR style things, and the episode was about bacteria.

And as heck is my witness, they told a story about how they were studying this bacteria when one day, a lab assistant stopped by wearing a pretty red dress and did few minor maintenance tasks before heading off to a social event. Then, over the next few days, the bacteria they'd been studying had all grown little red dresses.

The next day, I thought I should probably try to relisten to that podcast to find out what they actually said. I tried, but the original podcast glitched out, and I don't know the name of the bacteria podcast. Note that both the intended podcast and the bacteria one were about half an hour each, and the reported length was about an hour.

So the day after that, I looked it up, and could find no evidence of any such thing.

I went to listen again last night, and the original podcast is there, with an approximate length of 30 minutes. The bacteria podcast is gone without a trace.

I found a story about making dresses out of red wine bacteria and shit, but no.

So anyway, what I am telling you is that one time, some bacteria in a lab saw a lab assistant wearing a pretty red dress, which inspired them to grow pretty little red dresses of their own.
