Beto O'Rourke is the Democratic nominee for governor of Texas, running against Republican incumbent and all-around shitbag Greg Abbott. Beto is not going to be governor of Texas, but he's gonna have a damned fine time between now and November. Here he motherfucks a wingnut during a town hall.

Here in Colorado, it's not uncommon to see a disconnect between hardcore party activists - the people who go to every monthly meeting of their county party, get themselves elected as delegate to all the various district, state and congressional assemblies, etc. - and the non-hardcore shlubs who basically just register as a member of a party and vote in primaries and general elections. So it was with Republicans this year. Every last crackhead trumpanzee whackjob running for statewide office won big among the party hardcore at the GOP state assembly. All those crackhead trumpanzee whackjobs lost their primary elections.

That's not to say that the Republicans who won their primary races are prizes or anything. Heidi Ganahl, the GOP nominee for governor and the only Republican in the current crop who's actually won a statewide race - was asked early on whether Biden won the 2020 presidential elections and derided the reporter for asking such a "divisive question." She's also picked an election denier nut as her running mate. That guy is now busy telling people that he is not now and never was an election denier. Badass political reporters Kyle Clark and Marshall Zellinger, who now both work for the same teevee station in Denver, are not letting him get away with it.

Anyhoo, in this time of utter lunacy, it's almost comforting to see some old school Republican claptrap making a comeback. Here we see Ganahl talking about how she wants to eliminate the state income tax (the governor can't eliminate the state income tax), not increase any other tax, and still fix our rapidly degrading roads. You know, cuz fixing existing roads and building new ones is totally free.

Pat Toomey (R-Pa) is retiring from the U.S. Senate. Vying for the seat are John Fetterman (D), the state's lieutenant governor, and Mehmet Oz, who by all accounts was once a skilled, respected thoracic surgeon who went on to make a fortune promoting quackery on his Oprah-produced teevee show. Oz, the Trump-backed candidate, won the GOP primary by less than a thousand votes while Fetterman won the Dem primary going away.

The entertainment value of this campaign has thus far been sky high. Until recently, Fetterman was laid up at home recovering from the stroke he suffered in May. Despite the infirmity, he's been beating Oz like a rented mule. All the polls I've seen have Fetterman ahead by double digits.

Of course, it's not just the beating but the way in which it's happening. Fetterman and/or the twisted geniuses running his campaign's social media have gotten vast amounts of mileage out of portraying Oz as a New Jersey carpetbagger. Any time Oz posts pics of himself at some beloved Pennsylvania locale, he'll get some sort of Welcome to PA message from Fetterman. Here's a personal favorite, an old-school billboard. And regarding Oz's claim to Second Amendment bona fides by virtue of being a lifelong hunter, We totally believe you dude.

And then there's the "crudites," OMFG, the "crudites." Mashing up the names of two distinct grocery store chains didn't really bolster ol' Mehmet's suggestion that he really and for true knows grocery shopping. The ad got Fetterman's campaign a half-mill in contributions in about a day.

Things are sure to get ugly when the wingnut dark money begins to flow in earnest, but for now this race is everything a fella could have hoped for.

The clown show got what it's long wanted back in June when SCOTUS shot down Roe. Before that, I was pretty sure the GOP was taking both houses of Congress. Now? I confess harboring a faint hope that the Dems might not just hold the Senate but gain enough seats that Chuck Schumer can occasionally flip off Joe Manchin and/or Kyrsten Sinema.

After all, spending decades actively recruiting every stupid, bugfuck crazy, violent, sociopathic shitbag you can find into your "big tent" party should have, you know, consequences.

I keep trying to do a write-up on the Georgia U.S. Senate race between incumbent Democrat Rafael Warnock, an intelligent, effective, caring public servant, and Herschel Walker, arguably the stupidest, least honest, most mentally unstable person who's ever lived. When I get to the part about the race being a dead heat, I inevitably rage-quit the posting attempt.

Wow you really are deep in it aren't you. It was literally a 50-50 shot before this debate. If the debate went as you said Oz maybe pulled ahead. But unless he is ahead by at least 20 points then you are just delusional to think that Fetterman couldn't win without some conspiracy.

I'm delusional? did you see that man struggle to even comprehend what was being said, and that is WITH months of prep and computer assistance? It really shouldn't surprise me given the exploitation of the commander in chief at the hands of his constituents, but still. It's just fucking sad.
