Only saw him once live, when I was young and ignorant, but not too ignorant to realize that the sounds he was making with the guitar were absolutely unique.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Damn. Beck's death was reported a couple of days ago then dismissed as a hoax. Looks like it was the real deal after all.
Jeff Beck was a legit virtuoso. And the original Jeff Beck Group at one time or another included Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Max Middleton, Nicky Hopkins, Aynsley Dunbar and Cozy Powell. His albums Blow by Blow and Wired also featured a slew of superb musicians and are among the best instrumental albums rock ever generated.
There's a great story about Beck becoming dissatisfied with his work - as he often did - and calling up producer George Martin to say he wanted to go back in the studio and rerecord a solo on Blow by Blow, only to be told the album was already in stores.
Here he is performing a signature tune of his from 1966:
The lineup on the original studio version of this one was Beck, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones (later of Led Zepplin), Keith Moon (The Who) and Nicky Hopkins (Jeff Beck Group, Rolling Stones, etc.).
Here's another old Jeff Back Group tune performed by a band that featured singing god Beth Hart and bass god Tal Wilkenfeld.
RIP, motherfucker, and thanks for decades of utterly spectacular music.

Tragically young, yes. But 12 years less tragically young than her father was.
I remember JFK-vividly Elvis’s unexpected death. I remember he was young. But every time I go to check, it shocks me how young he was.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
It's odd that I didn't think to post about that. Laverne and Shirley was one of my favorite shows as a kid but for some reason when I learned that she had died it was barely a blip on my radar. I wonder if it's because I had more affection for Penny Marshall's character and she died first, or if it's simply because I haven't seen the show or really thought about either actor since I was a kid. Morning thoughts.

Re: BREAKING: Sometimes Famous People Die
Way too young, indeed! I'd be remiss in failing to note that De La Soul's Three Feet High and Rising is arguably one of the top 20 albums ever made.
