Harry & Meghan
How do we feel about these two in America?
Irrelevant, relevant? making a difference? Do you want them to just go away? Their website Archewell, their podcasts on spotify?
What's the point of them?
or they are really trying so give them a break. Youth ambassadors for Biden?

Re: Harry & Meghan
okay, I'll start. I feel the Monarchy does not fit in modern society. Charles will be king of england on his mother's death, and then William and onward...
I suppose they can do good a a figurehead and bringing attention to certain plights - but the bowing and curtseying chaps my ass.
I think Meghan is playing the acting role of her life (Deserves an OSCAR) and manipulated herself into that family and caused mucho chaos and irreparable damage.
Now they are in America, neighbours of Oprah, is anyone really taking them seriously or listening to them?

Who?
Oh, yes. That nice young couple from across the pond.
Well they seem rather nice. I guess they can stay

Are they still here? I thought they moved to Canada or something. Either way, good for them backing away from the absurdity of the monarchy. Don't care what they do though.

Re: Harry & Meghan
I agree monarchy is an absurd way of selecting a head of state.
But electing a president, which seems a much better system, unfortunately results in some spectacularly crappy heads of state too.
We need a better system of choosing a head of state. Maybe a simple lottery would work, but I'm open to other suggestions.
Meghan is a publicity hound (and very good at being one) but simultaneously tries to maintain the absurd assertion of "not wanting any press intrusion." What she means is that she doesn't want any press intrusion unless she can control it, and it makes her money.
Harry is a bit dim - that's not his fault: with a normal distribution of intelligence, roughly half of the people are bound to be below average. He was obviously smitten by Meghan and follows her lead. I suspect the marriage won't last, and if it fails Harry will have burned most of his boats when it comes to performing "normal royal duties." But he will still lead a life of luxury - albeit a more private one.
I make a point of not watching any royal coverage - be that weddings, podcasts, TV shows, whatever. It's impossible to avoid seeing royal stories in the news, but my tolerance of it is very low, so it's never very long before I turn the page or change the channel.

I like the idea of separation of heads of state and heads of government, which we do not have. Monarchy isn't inherently bad, except for maybe hereditary monarchy which seems more calcifying than stabilizing. I like the idea of an upper house electing a ceremonial head of state or something. Like in Italy where they elect some elderly person who is too old for career to be President. Maybe Italy is not the best example.
Also it occurs to me that I can't actually tell if monarchy is patently absurd or just the British monarchy, because the British one is the only one that US media routinely pays any attention to. Maybe there are others that are less clownish. Even there, maybe they are clownish mostly because of the choice to treat them as celebrities rather than salaried functionaries.

Re: Harry & Meghan
A while back, I was talking to my son and they came up for some reason. He didn't know who they were, really, so I mentioned that he used to watch that show she was on.
He got all moony eyed and said, "She's actually a real princess now? Good, she should be."
Soooo. Most of what I know about her is that my son is sweet on her.
I pay a little more attention to the royals than he does, but not enough to be entirely clear on what the deal is or why they left beyond a general impression that they thought it was pointless and stressful or something like that. If that's accurate, they seem like reasonable people and good for them.

This is how I feel too, like any good she does would need a camera crew, she would never do anything helpful privately.

Re: Harry & Meghan
She (Meghan) is involved in a Court Case with several newspapers for publishing excerpts of the (private) letter she wrote to her Father.
There are lots of twists and turns in this - more than you would think.

Re: Harry & Meghan
Meghan is really very pretty, and I hear she's an actress. I understand that Harry is a Prince, but sort of isn't now. I have had the impression that British tabloid media was very mean to Meghan because she's a crude American and not white enough.
Sorry, none of the poll answers reflect my indifference. The only reason why I know anything is because I didn't completely ignore some random news bits that had images of Meghan Markle in it.

I think Charles is permanently out of the succession after divorcing, remarrying a "commoner," and pissing off his Queen Mama a dozen-plus other ways. I believe currently, William is first in line - unless he gets onto the shit list himself.

Succession | The Royal Family
or:
Charles
William
George and his siblings in birth order
Harry, who according to a friend in the RAF, was a gigantic frat boy twat. But he's in his 30s now which is a wildly different mental space than the 20s.
Also, Kate Middleton is a commoner.

Re: Harry & Meghan
For some reason Google news thinks I want to keep up to date on every move the Royal Family makes, so they regularly show up in my news feed. I do like the clothes and the jewelry.
Anyway, I've always had a soft spot for Harry, since he's The Spare and doesn't have a well defined role like his brother does (who seems pompous as all hell). With the way he lost his mum, I can understand his wanting to back away from royal life.
I don't have a lot of sympathy for Meghan. I do think she got a raw deal from the British press, but they tear everyone apart. She seems to me to want to have it both ways - the benefits of being a royal and none of the responsibilities.
I can't see them staying married for too much longer. I think Harry misses being in the service (army?) too much.

I love the clothes and jewels and tiaras.....!!
Whenever there is a state dinner or other lofty occasion I love to see what everyone is wearing.
Meghan is a knockout - I have to give her that, she could look sexy in a paper bag. But still, oh so sly.

Re: Harry & Meghan
Read somewhere:
It William shows up to the party it’s probably winding down. If Harry shows up you’re likely calling into work the next morning.
