Well, of course not. So far as the constitution is concerned, one needn't even have any law-related education, training, experience or knowledge to serve on SCOTUS.

Likewise, the constitution specifies no criteria for senators to use in discharging their "advice and consent" function. I was describing some of the criteria I would use in the dystopian nightmare circumstances that would surely prevail "[w]ere I a senator . . . ." (I'd also adhere to a zero-tolerance "No rapey alcoholic manbabies" rule, but that's independent of basic qualifications stuff such as trial lawyer experience for trial judge nominees.)

I saw a post from someone whose right-wing hate-people-not-like-us dad is close to dying of covid, and his mom is fully aware of how serious covid is, and simultaneously believes it's a fake. I think we've seen many other such cases.

And then you have the rabid anti-abortionists who will not hesitate to get an abortion for themselves or push their partner or daughter into it because they're a deserving special case.

You have the extreme sensitivity of some right-wingers, like the tearful fragility of Kavanope, while at the same time mocking liberal "snowflakes".

Not to mention all the religious doublethink - God controls everything but needs your donations, God controls everything but can only save some of those who pray from hurricanes, Christ tells you to love everyone but lock children up in cages.



Is this doublethink something created by the 1%, through control of the media and destruction of public education? Or is it a deep psychological scar-tissue response: I have these fears and weaknesses and I hate them and myself for it and I do these things that I feel guilt about, and I must suppress all of it with the full force of law and religion and social pressure and project the fear and weakness and shame onto others even more forcefully than I feel it so that I can bunker down in denial? (And then, naturally, exploited by the 1%.)
