I looked up the Atlantic article they mentioned and its reasonably accurate,
Although I would say its not just scorn but fear, fear of the unknown. The devil you know and all of that.
My little foray into the Trump anti-vax zone has shown me that many are just extremely scared and the constantly downplayed risk of covid feels safer to them than the unknown constantly played up risk of the vaccine. There was a lot of what if? style arguments against getting vaxed combined with the Im healthy so I wont die sentiment about contracting covid. Many seem certain that they will be around in 10 years time, and what if the vaccine causes problems then? Better not chance it.
Id also say that I bet theres a decent number of people enjoy some of the things he does, assume it wont happen to them, dont care about others, but dont want to admit it to themselves, let alone others, so they claim to hate him, while secretly voting for him.
Also I agree with that triage article, many have so scared themselves into their current beliefs that only if it actually happens to them will it shock them out of it, theres nothing a random person can do that will convince them otherwise.
Since as we all know, the secret cabal of baby eating democrats want to take your guns and place you in camps while assaulting your children, thats just fact. Besides, liberals are just so obsessed with hating Trump theyre probably making most of it up anyway.
A thing I can empathize with is large mounds of anxiety and have had some breakthrough successes when I can get someone to discuss their fears, and that takes providing a ridicule free environment.

Damn right. It's way past time these recreational anti-maskers started suffering for their "art."

While right now I dont wear one when walking outside in light human traffic, I did at one point and if Delta doesnt get tamped down here I might again. I guestimate though that Ive walked over 200 miles in an n95. I do wear one anytime inside a building or around larger groups of humans.
IMO the the mask is suffocating me panic, besides a decent amount of psychosomatic action is revealing many people have unaddressed breathing issues, as the only times Ive felt the n95 cut off my breathing was when I was already having asthma problems.

I like wearing a mask now. I don't have to smell anyones halitosis and they can't smell mine either.

I work from home the vast majority of the time, but wear a mask when I go in to work once every couple of weeks. I still wear a mask any time I go indoors at a store or office, or if I go into a restaurant to pick up food. I don't go grocery shopping in person anymore so most of my retail mask wearing is just if I run into the hardware store or pharmacy or something. I don't generally wear one outdoors unless I'm waiting in an outdoor dining area for food. Usually wear a KN-95 because I found some that have a good nose shape that keeps my glasses from fogging.

I would kill for a mask that doesn't fog up my glasses. I wear level three.

Who is promoting those fears?
