Proposed law in Oklahoma would require couples wanting to get married to submit results of a STD test to the county clerk that issues the marriage licenses, which would become public record, a violation of federal HIPAA law. If passed, a person with an STD would not be allowed to get married, not even if their intended partner was okay with it or had the same STD already.

Oklahoma Lawmakers Vote Overwhelmingly to Ban Advanced Placement U.S. History | ThinkProgress

Apparently it focuses too much on the ugly parts of American history. Can't have kids knowing about the downsides of this country, huh?

I'm against AP students getting higher grades than non-AP students only by the merit of the class being more difficult. AP classes here get up to 5.0 grade points, whereas regular classes only 4.0. The reward for taking AP classes should be the college credit they get for free, and, of course, the extra things they learn at that level. In other words, I'm not against AP classes, I'm against schools having 32 valedictorians because they've all scored above 4.0 because of the extra credits for taking AP.

Disclosure: I had a daughter in AP classes, though not a valedictorian.

Dump truck splashes treated sewage sludge on roadway and cars. I witnessed this happen, I was on the other side of the road on the opposite side of the intersection. The truck slammed on the brakes at a stoplight and his "load" shifted forward and up over the front of the dump bed trailer, all over the truck cab and a couple of nearby cars. At first, because it was black muck and was steaming, I thought it was hot asphalt, but not after I got a whiff as I drove past. There was no mistaking that smell, that was sewage. The intersection was partially closed for about six hours for cleanup.

The Kinslow, Keith, and Todd, Inc. architecture firm has drawn up plans to build a building shaped like a tornado funnel. Tornado Tower would be 20-30 stories tall and house a severe weather museum, lab, and research center as well as office space.

Sweet mother of the non-existent god, cattle rustling is ruining my life. First, they hit my meat supplier, stealing very expensive Piedmontese cattle from the owner of Natural Farms meat market. Now, there are more than 1,100 dairy cattle missing from the Braum's Ice Cream store chain's farm. I say we round up a posse and smoke these meth-heads out and hang 'em from a nearby tree. In the case of Follett, Texas, that may be a ways away.

Oklahoma legislature passed a bill that takes marriage license issuance out of the hands of county government and into the hands of religious clergy. What could possibly go wrong?

Methinks I need to get ordained by the Universal Life Church.

They can't, really, but this only about the issuance of marriage licenses and performances of wedding ceremonies, not the lawr. Either that or the lawmakers are morons.

How can a clergy person issue a civil license and have it be valid for all civil purposes? Are they going to remove all references to marriage in all laws and statutes?

That seems a safe assumption.

It's like the secessionists, when you are all "Oh yeah, secede! What does the economy of your new sovereign nation look like, there, Pal? What revenue do you generate that is completely independent of the USA? Will you enter trade agreements with other countries? What will you export?" they just kind of get confused.

Oklahoma Bill Would Legalize Gay Marriage. This Apparently Bothers Democrats and Gays. - Hit & Run : Reason.com

Makes more sense now. However why not just change the law so clerks don't perform ceremonies. Thats how it works in some states already. Clerks issue licenses and thats it.

Because issuing licenses is a deeply held belief. If I don't believe in that kind of marriage I certainly don't think you deserve it.

Well then filing certificates and affidavits after the fact is probably also a sincerely held belief that one shouldn't have to do, even if it is their job!

I'm all for businesses having to post their prejudices. That way you know when you enter their business where they stand instead of just guessing. Next, we need to get people to wear t-shirts proclaiming same. Mine would read, "I hate haters and Fox News watchers."

What do you call it when a young woman says her husband shot her in the foot by accident, there was a fatal shooting in the Oklahoma City park, a young woman stabbed her grandfather, and a 22 year old man was found dead in the street in downtown Tulsa? In Oklahoma, we call that Monday.

It got a little tornadoey around here last evening. God missed me again, this time by about five miles. Too bad, better luck next time. Some poor schlub in a trailerhouse near Sand Springs got kilt instead.

I have it on good authority (you know who) that God is not even trying to kill you. God is, in fact, working extra hard trying to keep you alive (and you aren't helping matters much) because you are just too rich a source of humor in the heavenly courts to let you die in an untimely manner.

I spent a fair amount of time wondering how and why a tornado would give a man a kilt. Never knew any of the thunder gods to be leg men in particular.
