Grandfather? Hell, your husband eats eggs with ketchup. Or Louisiana hot sauce. Or both. Or gravy and ketchup over them.

One time, at Boy Scout camp, they served eggs so dry we swore they must have been powdered eggs. The only way to get them down was to lubicate them with ketchup. More ketchup was consumed at breakfast there than any other meal. It was the beginning of the ketchup on eggs for me. I've been know to eat them without, but I'd rather not.

You are still not mentioning the ketchup. Those other things are also necessities, but I can eat them w/o eggs. NO way I'm eating eggs w/o ketchup.

Yeah. The sad thing is, I'd probably like them with ketchup. I just can't bring myself to do it.

Re: culinary crimes
Bah. Eggs are way better with hot sauce, or salsa. Ketchup is not really a crime, but it seems like settling for third- or fourth-place.

Well ... except for the cilantro, I prefer my eggs not taste like lemon dishwashing soap.

Huevos rancheros? I had this at a breakfast buffet served by a hotel in Arizona. Very tasty. I don't think it counts as a culinary crime if it's legitimized by being put on a menu.

Re: culinary crimes
Today I committed an even worse culinary crime than beanaroni. I made pasta using sloppy joe sauce instead of tomato sauce. Also, corn. I blame bargain-bin shopping - the can was very very cheap and the picture on it looked appealing. Then, in an attempt to rescue it, I added an entire mini-can of chili peppers, procured from the same bargain bin.
Do you have any idea how much green food dye they add to canned chile peppers? It's a lot.
The result is some sort of ... demonic ghoulash. Which is a step up from what before tasted like pasta in pure barbecue sauce.

This is an excellent thread to resurrect!
I haven't felt like cooking the past few days, so I've been eating some serious trash.
I had gummy bears for lunch yesterday, and leftover spam and kimchi today. And leftover mashed potatoes with pickled asparagus for breakfast both days.
I should really make dinner tomorrow.

Re: culinary crimes
My in-laws came to visit last week. Considering Mrs. Reason's brother had never been here, we did as many of the standard Seattle area touristy things we could for the week.
One of those was visiting Pike's Place Market. We did a food tour of the market, and as we wandered by a jam stall, I noticed they had hot ginger jam. I love, love, love ginger, and after I tried it, I bought a jar.
What's the culinary crime here? I just had a PB&J sandwich with the ginger jam as a snack.
It's not the best mix, but it fixed all of my cravings.

I absolutely respect Thai Angry Beef. In the same way that those who suffer a significant shock come to respect electricity.

I order things 5 spicy sometimes, which seems to make people nervous. I always have to promise I won't send it back or call the police.

Re: culinary crimes
This crime has been committed for decades and I probably ought to do some time. When making Shepherds pie, a favorite, I have always gone overboard on the mashed potatoes. Even when “recipe “ called for less. Tonight I made the perfect beef mixture for shepherds pie and couldn’t wait! Nah potatoes overruled.
I was in denial a good many year but when I tasted my beef concoction for tonight before potatoes, it was good. Then after potatoes.. ohhh what have I done to my family over the years denying them one thin top of potatoes?

Re: culinary crimes
Shepherd's pie is made with lamb mince. Clue is in the name. Beef mince with mashed potato topping is correctly named, 'cottage pie'.
Of course, neither is really a pie, but that's a whole other subject...
