A formal investigation has been launched by the University of Florida after an internal report detailed a culture of fear among faculty members claiming political influence on campus as well as instances of pressure to destroy and delay publication of Covid-19 research data.
Vice President of UF Research David Norton announced the investigation in an email to faculty and staff Friday morning, according to the university. The email indicates the results of the investigation will be made public upon completion, but did not give a timeline.
In typical fascist fashion, Desantis spokesperson says the opposite of the truth.
Quote:
"Everyone in the academic community is free to share their opinions and critiques of policies. The governor is confident in UF leadership and proud that the university has risen in the national rankings to one of the top 5 public research universities in the country," Pushaw said.
Note that multiple Florida professors were told they couldn’t testify as experts because it would basically be against Desantis’s interest.
So I asked a European, physician friend, "How long before the masks come off in the U.S.?"
"Never. Alone on the planet, you have turned public health into a political issue. Maybe Jesus can stop Covid. Or your guns. Just don't come over here."
<Number crunching> Boris Johnson has said every adult in England will be offered a booster jab before the end of the year if they got their 2nd shot over 3 months ago. If everyone came forward, how many people are eligible for vaccines in England? 29,984,016. Yes ~30m! (1/5)
Who would have thought that this beleaguered Prime Minister would have resorted to a televised broadcast announcing an attention-grabbing over-ambitious proposal that the public sector was not prepared for
The cabinet secretary's report into the 'partygate' scandal (and the lies told during the attempted cover-up) is due later this week. Coincidentally, the MPs break up for their Christmas and New Year's holiday on Thursday. Although the report will be delivered to Boris (maybe after the MPs are already on holiday), it may not be made public till the new year. I suppose, if the report exonerates Boris, then it will be made public sooner - but by then it will be old news anyway. Before then, we have:
The size of the Tory party's rebellion in today's 'plan B measures' vote.
Thursday's by-election, where the Tories may lose a safe seat.
The continuing panic concerning the Omicron wave, and the booster vaccine roll out.
It was. That and the (what felt like) 10 minutes trying to find his page saying "forgive me" every now and then seemed like a complete breakdown of the affable buffoon act, revealing the hollow idiot.
With things opening up a bit and people starting to wander about and party again, it’s a bit odd to realize that some parts of the country are still battling like it’s a year ago.
I may have to skip out on next month's book club because I'll be at 7 months fully vaccinated, and I won't be boosted by then. We have a few people that are more at-risk. I don't feel it's much of a change in risk for me, but if other people don't feel comfortable, then I won't attend.

Update:
The cabinet secretary, who was carrying out the inquiry, has been revealed to have held a lockdown rule breaking party in his own office, and is now expected to step aside from delivering the report (BBC article).
99 Tory MPs voted against the government. A record rebellion for Boris.
The Tories lost the seat they'd held for the last 200 years.
Still panicking, with a new record-breaking set of case numbers every day since then.
The study finds no evidence of Omicron having lower severity than Delta, judged by either the proportion of people testing positive who report symptoms, or by the proportion of cases seeking hospital care after infection. However, hospitalisation data remains very limited at this time.

Today in London, anti-vaxxers attacked an Apple store yelling "shame on you", presumably because they think Bill Gates owns Apple. And they filmed the attack with their iPhones. I guess they "did their own research"? pic.twitter.com/yaIhVtBHVo
I got boosted yesterday. Feeling pretty wiped out today.
Same experience. Spent a whole day shivering.
