Their mission is noble. However, and I have long struggled caring as a Catholic anti Catholic sentiments , I imagine many Catholics take offense of the sisters of perpetual indulgence vulgarity when it comes to Catholic saints . You know for a forum such as this, a group maligning another group of people, matter their good intentions, I would think a group like you would defend the people who take their Catholic faith seriously by criticizing this irreverent group. But instead it just proves what a bunch of hypocrites you all are.

FWIW I generally try to favour only irreverence and mockery that punches up rather than down. Seems a pretty mild tool for a historically persecuted community to fight back.

And between the Catholic Church and LGBTQ+ folks I think it's pretty clear who is up and who is down.

Yep it is unfortunate that an organization so close to Jesus, helping the less fortunate, those forgotten by society is named similar to an international organized child rape ring who’s leader sits in a castle of gold as his followers declare bankruptcy to deny their victims rightful compensation. Has anyone else run into those TV-Screen doors on the cold drinks at walgreens? At first glance they seem like an interesting idea, products can display ads or more complex product information all right there on a brightly colored screen! Then you open them up and realize it’s just the door, inside is an old school drink rack with failing light and the entire concept hinges on having their minimum wage employees constantly checking and restocking because all the screen has really done is make it impossible to see what drinks are actually in the fridge.

If you haven’t, it may be because they realized what a dumb idea it was and halted roll out part way through. If you have and wondered what crony capitalist sold them on such an idea, that would be their former CEO who left walgreens in 2014 to form a company that contracted with walgreens in 2017 to install their dumb doors, and who is now suing walgreens for $200m for halting orders.

I think I have, I think my mother's local Walgreens had them, but it's not like it left a deep impression on me if it did.

From a high-level, it does sound like a good idea. It has sensors to detect if people were nearby, and is supposed to attract customers it detects with an animated ad or specials. If I remember correctly, the doors are supposed to only show the product if it was stocked, and there is supposed to be technology to make that determination, without additional labor by the store employees.

I don't know if reality met the hype. I am presuming not, based on the news article.

Interesting, I think I’m hyper aware as Walgreens has been part of the sf ‘doom loop’ story of stores leaving SF, when in reality there were an absurd number of walgreens in the city with those in poorer areas looking run down, with sparse shelves and not enough resources to handle the area they’re in but they did get new screens for their doors.

I don't actually know for sure, but I'll bet the money for the doors came from a separate budget than the store's general budget. It's likely a special project that the stores were either selected or joined a trial.

If I were a manager of a less resourced store, I'd probably try to get them - seems like a way to freshen up the look of the store without too much additional cost. I may also be falling for the hype - I got some form of preview for this as part of my previous job, so I'm not actually sure how much I can say. (I haven't said anything that isn't already public information.)
