Default Re: What's the frequency, Colorado?

The Colorado Republican Party is taking in almost no money and recently entered into some kind of crazy-ass peace treaty with Colorado Libertarian Party under which the lolberts agreed not to run "spoiler candidates" in close races if the Republican candidate is sufficiently down with libertarian principles. The "treaty" is apparently the result of the 2022 general election in our brand new U.S. House of Representatives district, where a lolbert candidate siphoned off over 9,000 votes in an election the Dem won by just over 1,600 votes.

This crazy ass lolbert just announced his candidacy in Lauren "Beetlejuice" Boebert's district. Bobo got reelected in 2022 by fewer than 550 votes. Crazy ass lolbert vows "to faithfully campaign as a Libertarian for the honor of serving you" and "to be limited to 3 terms and never to vape nicotine at any venue, including Fiddler’s Green with Rob Zombie tomorrow night."

Due to a combination of increased rates and revaluations, real property taxes are fixin' to skyrocket in lolorado. The Democratic state legislature referred to the voters a complex measure dubbed Proposition HH, which would reduce the property tax burden while authorizing state and local governments to keep more income tax money and provide increased public school funding. The stuff after "while" in that last sentence requires voter approval because of an abomination called the Taxpayers' Bill of Rights, which lolorado dipshits enshrined in the state constitution long ago.

The anti-HH forces were spectacularly well funded and well organized. The teevee ads featured multiple whopping lies, but the lies were presented confidently and the ads were slickly produced. The pro-HH forces were nearly invisible by comparison. Their big teevee ad featured funny-looking animals talking in funny voices about the need for property tax relief. It honest to fuck looked like an Americans for Prosperity-funded parody ad designed to make HH and its supporters look stupid.

Unsurprisingly, HH got massacred at the polls.

So, the real property tax increases go forward. That'll result in more tax foreclosures (or "let's get what we can now before the tax foreclosure hits" sales), mostly falling on old fucks and other lower-income property owners. That in turn will make more houses available to "entrepreneurs" who'll turn then into permanent Airbnbs. That, of course, will further the wingnut goal of bringing about conditions that'll make the Gilded Age look like a moonbat socialist utopia by comparison. Kinda tough for a prole to stay interested in stuff like wealth distribution and encroaching fascism when s/he's gotta relocate every 30-60 days.

We got all the mail telling us what a disaster HH would be if we didn't "Stand up and fight High Taxes."

I looked at our county, and of the 1800 people that voted, a whole 298 voted for the HH.

I should have known. I thought it a good idea. That usually means everybody here hates it.

Maybe, but remember you and 50 other people can just show up at a store and redistribute the wealth by walking out with the goods. Sure you can't pay your taxes, but you can still eat. And have really nice shoes.

I blame LarsMac for this!

Lauren Boebert, who won reelection to the House of Representatives in 2022 by all of 546 votes, is switching districts to the deep red District 4, to run for the seat held by KBen BKuck, who's retiring to pursue a blabbering head career. Bobo joins an already-crowded GOP clown car that features some of the craziest shitheads you'll ever see. Absent promising (and delivering) tuggies to every male voter in that district, Bobo's gonna have a hard () getting back to the House.

Some are spinning this as brilliant 8-dimensional chess on the part of the GOP, simultaneously burying Bobo and turning District 3 from a possible if not likely Dem pickup to a race. Of course, the latter depends on the GOP nominating a non-loon who's capable of generating some enthusiasm. I don't think the Republicans have it in them, but we'll see.

Yeah, I was just reading that in the local paper.
I don't think she is going to get much traction around here.
The guys that hang around the coffee shop are pretty sharp on who is doing what in the county, and I spend a bit of time over in the next county, as well. The feeling is that the seat is all but a lock for the local State Rep to move into. Most of the real conversations seem to be about who will take the State Rep seat, and Boebert ain't it.
The 4th district is a lot of Hardscrabble farmers and ranchers who have little time for "the kind of Bullshit that bitch is dragging around."

I think the intent is that the 4th district is safe enough R that it doesn't matter that she's horrible, and the 3rd district would be safe R for anyone less loathed than her.

May be something to that from her end, but, I get the feeling that folks on this side of the state have no use for her sort of nonsense. and there are plenty of "Good Republicans" around to do the job.

The current State Rep is the Odds on favorite for the job,

From the local Public Radio website:

Richard Holtorf: The rancher and Army veteran, who lives in Akron, currently serves in the state House representing a portion of the northeastern plains. He launched his bid for Congress from a livestock auction near his home, billing himself as a “no-nonsense conservative.”

In his announcement, Holtorf said Congress is full of “doormats” who don’t stand up for conservative values. He also took Buck to task for not pushing the “Trump agenda.”

“Leadership is lacking in Congress,” he said in a release. “I’m a fighter who is ready to shake up the swamp, not become part of it.”

He currently holds a leadership position in the state legislature, serving as the caucus’s minority whip. He also sits on two committees: Agriculture, Water & Natural Resources and Public & Behavioral Health & Human Services. He has focused on the urban-rural divide during his tenure at the statehouse.

Holtorf’s tenure at the statehouse hasn’t always been smooth though. He dropped his firearm in a public area outside the House chamber and was reprimanded for using a racial slur during a heated discussion on the House floor in 2021.

Was that when he called Tom Sullivan "Buckwheat" from the podium? If anyone can revive and carry forward the legacy of Marilyn Fucking Musgrave in that district, it's Buckwheat Dick Holtorf.

Indeed.
I met him while he was campaigning in the last election. He is quite the Ass. He is also a Trumper.
Like it or not, we will be stuck with him for a while. His only saving grace, in my not-so-humble-opinion is that he now stands between Boebert and a seat in the US House of Representatives.

Yup. That about sums it up. She was a novelty when she first came on the Stage, and she had a good talk.

Her district, however includes a lot of Snow Country, and Tourist business. When her shit starts smelling up the tourist business, people get tired of her rather quickly.

Out here in the East, it's just cattle and farming, and the farming is mostly to feed the Cattle. Even most of the city in this district is dealing with the Cattle business.

While she can talk the conservative talk, she also talks a lot of shit. and her new car shine has worn off. I could be wrong, but I don't think the folks out east will tolerate her for long.

Holtorf isn't actually "in" at this point. He's currently part of the state house of representatives and is looking to upgrade to Congress. Ken Buck, the current U.S. rep from that district, is not running again, so the seat is open.

Very true. She came about this --><-- close to losing her current seat to a Democrat in 2022 and that was before all the unhinged lunacy she unleashed since that election. If she can manage to win the GOP primary in District 4, another term in the House is guaranteed. That's a mighty goddamn big "if," though.

I was looking at the district's population figures, and I stand corrected. There have been some significant additions made that give the district a significant increase in Suburbanites.
That probably is not going to prove useful to the Democrats wanting to take the seat, but it might bring in enough to give Boebert a boost.
That would be scary. Though I still think the strength if the old school Ranchers and Farmers will keep her at bay.
Dunno. It's gonna be a scary election this year.
I never thought that I might be actively rooting for a Rethuglican for congress, but at this point a vote for a Dem in this district could help Boebert. That's scary. Good thing we've got ten months to work this out.

Boebert update.

The regional newspapers around here have all been posting reader reactions to Boebert's move across the state, and they are hardly approvals. The most flattering label given her, so far, is Carpetbagger, and name given the Northerners who went south after the Civil War to take advantage of the opportunities afforded by the Reconstruction.

And, no, a politician is not required to be a resident of the district he/she wished to represent. Boebert has promised, however, to relocate, should she get the job.

All three lolorado congressional districts currently held by Republicans are open now, what with milquetoast moron Doug Lamborn announcing that he's not running for reelection in CO-5.

A true wingnut whackjob, state GOP chair Dave Williams, wants the jerb. He's the genius who ran against Lamborn in the 2022 GOP primary and sued the secretary of state to have himself listed on the ballot as "Dave 'Let's Go Brandon' Williams."
