Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Given how long it takes little Mo to learn things, if she weren't capable of later in life learning, well, she wouldn't know very much.
I love Gizmo, she is a delight, but she is the smartest dog in the house only until we get another dog.
unless it's a King Charles Spaniel, then it's a tossup.

I'm fairly certain that Tuco is an Owoo prodigy. He just started owooing on his own.
He also shakes his toys with a neck-snapping move. I think he thinks he's just a very round wolf.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
I took Gizmo to the dog park yesterday for the first time. We tried it one time before with both of them, but Ripley was too aggressive-defensive (i.e., she would bark and snap at any dog who tried to come up and sniff her) so we didn't stay. Since it's just Gizmo now, I wanted to give it another try. She's afraid of other dogs, but she doesn't bark or snap, she just shies away, so I figured with time and practice maybe we could make it work.
I took her into the small dog area, and there were maybe a dozen dogs in there. Some dogs would come up and try to play with her, but when she shied away, they left her alone. Such good doggies. We hung out for a while, not sure how long, but I was essentially like, "Gizmo, you can do whatever you want except you can't hide behind me or under the benches." She explored around and sniffed and hung out in the sun some, and she definitely got more comfortable and braver the longer we were there.
Sometimes a dog would do a drive-by at her, where they would run toward her really fast, but then veer away at the last minute. Other times a dog would sniff her a little bit, but then leave her alone when she was obviously not into it. At first Gizmo was confused and scared, but after a while she started acting a little more curious. Like she would still shy away at the attempts to play, but then she would look at the dog with interest after it left. I dunno, all this doggie behavior is hard to describe.
There was one dog in the little dog area that was definitely not a little dog, but I don't try to police stuff like that because I figure the dog's person knows what they are doing. Like maybe their dog is afraid of big dogs or good with little dogs, who knows. Anyway, that big dog was among the dogs that was sweet to Gizmo and tried to play, but left her alone when she wasn't receptive.
I'm going to keep trying. Gizmo loves chasing and being chased, and I would love for her to have anyone to play with besides her tired old mommy.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
We did it again!
We went on a weekday and there were far fewer dogs there. The few that were there were very sweet.
Gizmo adjusted very quickly this time, like she remembered what was up from last time and never seemed frightened or confused. She was tail-up the whole time!
She still hasn't figure out how to play with the other dogs, but she doesn't run away from them nearly so much. I can't wait to take her back on a weekend when there are lots of dogs again.

Naming is such a personal thing - for the humang parent and the little bean. You gotta see who they are first and everything. But my first thought is Doctor Fluff. But I'm just a stranger on the internet.

There is definitely a doctor vibe from that pup.
Is that white flash kind of diamond shaped? Doctor Diamond. Or Doctor Jewel. Or just Jewel. Or, and work with me here, Kaylee.

Somebody on that other F-place said it, and I like it too: Cookie (as in cookies and cream, the black and white). (Heretofore guaranteed to make sure they become a little monster.)

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
I think we have landed on Mookie Mancha, aka Mookita Manchita.
Mookie, rhymes with cookie, for Mookie Betts, in honor of the Dodgers' World Series win. Mancha, Spanish for "spot", for the dot on her nose, and because chihuahuas need a Spanish name, and for the alliteration.

Strong choice, also leaves a lot of options for diminuitives - Mooker, Mookster, Mookitus Manchitus, Mookoritos, etc.
FYI there is a pretty major parvo epidemic in most places right now. A LOT of people are getting new poopers and taking them all sorts of places before it is safe to in the vaccine schedule. That usually means after all their doses (I think 16 weeks.) Parvo spreads very very easily, so no playing with strangers, or walking in places frequented by other dogs - it can spread through poop and soil.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
This dog's breath reeks of hot garbage. I hate to just come out with that, because there are a billion magical wonderful things to love about her, but I cannot get over this. It's seriously heinous, it makes me gag. I'm worried she might be undead and rotting from the inside.
She literally eats nothing but puppy formula. Her 3 tiny teeth are brand new. What the fuck is wrong with her mouth? Is she going to grow out of this?

Are you sure? Are you sure she isn't eating her own poop from time to time, or actual garbage?
I predict that, yes, she will grow out of this. But I should caution you that this prediction is based on 100% home-grown optimism with no added evidence or citations.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
Some dogs seem to need more dental care than others. Our beloved Sheltie, Booberry always wants to lick your lips, and has terrible teeth/breath. Part of that is his insistence on eating rabbit poop and whatever else he find on the ground, but Alphabits does the same, and his breath isn't half as bad.

Mookie Mancha is a growing girl.
Also since I’m using my head for scale, I’ve got a really big head. I mean with my shaved head I still wear a large/extra large fitted cap.

Re: An Arf-Arf Here and a Meow-Meow There... E I E I O!
She's all teeth. She's a fuckin piranha.
We're trying to get her to not snap and bite. She has lots of toys and she loves playing with all of them. She's good at tug o' war and she likes sticks and leaves.
She's 8 weeks old. Trying to get her in to the vet for her first shots.
We had her at the beach and everybody was like "AWWWWW!!"
