Mayonnaise
This is a thread about mayonnaise.
This is an investigation into some apparent changes to the Hellman's/Best Food mayonnaise recipe: Hellmann's mayonnaise different texture: Has something changed in Unilever's recipe?
I ran out of mayonnaise a while back, so I put it on my grocery list, bought some, but forgot to erase that offa the whiteboard after I did, so I bought a whole nother jar of mayonnaise the next time I was at the store. So I have two jars of mayonnaise that I have to get through before I can try that Just Mayo kind later. (I did try some at a Costco sample thing, but man, it was weird. The lady asked if I wanted a sample, and I was hungry, so I said OK, and she gave me a cracker with like a TABLESPOON of Just Mayo with garlic in it. Like a giant glob o' mayo. I ate it to be polite, but it was weird and sort of gross.)
I also have some Kewpie mayonnaise in the refrigerator.
I don't even use mayo very often, so it's weird I have so much of it around right now.
In conclusion: Mayonnaise.

Re: Mayonnaise
It's a well-known fact that the Dutch eat mayo with everything. Every Dutch town has a mayonaise pond that the citizens can dip their fries in.

Well of course BLT, but also don't forget, because MAYO!, is scramble egg and toast, to get rid of the excess mayo. A scramble egg can accompany an almost equal weight of mayonnaise. A physicist PROVED that is a fact once.

Re: Mayonnaise
I like to mix mayo with a dip or herbs for sandwiches. My favorite is this 'peppersweet and feta' chip dip, but I haven't seen it in stores in a while. So I use basil & mild chili (I buy those herb tubes).

Re: Mayonnaise
I like Dijonnaise.
It's like mayonnaise, the flavorless goo of the sandwich world, spiced up with winey mustard.

Re: Mayonnaise
I looked up the Wikipedia entry on Mayo and was surprised at how recent an invention it is.

Oh. My.
This inspired me to check the Hilobrow series De Condimentis to see if it covered mayonnaise, and holy mackerel did it ever:
Salsa Mahonesa and the Seven Years War | HiLobrow
Mayonnaise is also a mother sauce, so it's covered in a few other installments in the series as well, but I especially like the palpable rage and salmagundi facts in the one about salad dressing:
De Condimentis (14): Dress My Salad | HiLobrow
Quote:
So here we are today, oppressed by our salad dressing “choices.” Stand in the salad dressing aisle at the grocery store and tell me you don’t feel oppressed — watched, even. Salad dressing, once a way for humanity to control our salad is now controlling us, bossing us around. Where did the bourgeoisie put all that coercion? Just follow the money and pour it on — you don’t even have to shake it.
It will be a long road back, but every time you pour some fish sauce on a green salad, shake some oil and vinegar together with whatever happens to catch your eye in the spice cabinet, every time you make some mayonnaise, mix it together with some ketchup, some hot peppers and garlic and say “take that Stalin, you bastard,” you reclaim just a little of what was stolen from us and thrown down that yawning chasm at the crossroads of democracy and capitalism.

Re: Mayonnaise
I AM NOT OPPRESSED BY THE DRESSING AISLE. I made my own rooster mayonnaise. Though the other day I had some and it tasted funny so I had to throw it out. Even this one time I made a version of that special sauce that one restaurant has. I even also used it on deviled eggs this one time and it was good.
I AM FIGHTING THE POWER.
Fair disclosure: I do like mayonnaise.

I will eat almost anything, but mayonnaise is something I will not eat voluntarily, and will only accept small amounts on certain foods.
That and white chocolate. I think I have a thing against stuff that reminds me of eating fat. I don't like eating fat, either.

Re: Mayonnaise
White chocolate is awesome, I have realised, if you think of it as creamy sugar and having no connection with chocolate.
The great Sandra Boynton has a section in on identifying a superior quality white chocolate.
It's basically:
It should look like this | | | It should smell like this | | (scratch and sniff) | It should taste like this | | (cut out and chew) |

Endorsing JoeP's recommendation, I was not a fan of what I took to be one of those self-negating products, (viz. low-fat butter, decaffeinated coffee, chocolateless chocolate) until I discovered this.
If you hate white chocolate, of course it won't convert you, but for everyone else, if you can get it, try it—you are in for a life-changing treat!

Mayo is boring. Boring and tasteless. I much prefer Miracle Whip.

Re: Mayonnaise
Here's a little secret about white chocolate. The vast majority of the stuff sold as white chocolate isn't really it. If you find actual, quality white chocolate it can be incredibly delicious. For baking the only brand that sells the real thing is Bakers. Everyone else sells "white confectionery" with no cocoa butter that does not melt. Try the good stuff, at a quality chocolate store or by buying Bakers. I can't guarantee it will change your mind, but it might.

Re: Mayonnaise
It's still not chocolate if it's white, because it contains no cocoa solids.

Oh man, that looks goood. I love white chocolate anyway but that double-whammy with the mousse makes for a whole new intensity of white chocolate.
As for the main subject, lisarea knows how I feel about her lifestyle choices.
