Hackman retired about 20 years ago and totally dropped out of public life. Every couple of years, a new photo of him would be passed around by movie buffs on social media when someone would spy him in public. Last picture I saw, he was much skinnier but not unusually so for a person in their 90s.

I'm sad for all of them, but his wife and dog is tragic.

I don't want to speculate. But I am going to anyway.

It looks like the wife died (stroke, heart attack, suicide, time will tell), and then the dog and Hackman possibly both died of neglect some time after that.
Horrific, if true. Hope it was a gas thing instead.

I just saw the news, and it's more depressing than I imagined. It appears Betsy Arakawa died of hantavirus, and Hackman survived a week longer probably in a confused state due to advanced Alzheimer’s.

The hantavirus came as a surprise, but otherwise exactly what I was fearing had happened.

The medical examiner seems to think Hackman was so far gone from Alzheimer's that he didn't realize he was trapped in a house with the remains of his dead spouse and dead dog. If that was the case, it's the closest thing to "good news" the story has.

I didn't see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang until about 10 years after it came out, but that is great one if you also somehow missed it coming out in 2005.

I never thought I'd be mourning the death of a Pope, but this is a big loss for the world. It seems unlikely that any new Pope will match his critiques of capitalism and support for the Palestinians, among other things.
