The new season (s7) of Black Mirror is extraordinarily good.

I am looking forward to Andor s 2 that starts next week more than is entirely reasonable, to the point where I just know my expectations are going to be sky-high.

I think it's a maybe that they're coming back for a fourth season but that's a maybe with a wink because they're definitely coming back. They're negotiating for 5 seasons and they're for sure going to get it. It's Showtime, five seasons is nothing to them.

Oh but the idea was that the season finale was supposed to also stand on its own as a series finale just in case. I guess they burnt the other half of the bookend from the pilot, but it was better than if they'd left it hanging. There's still plenty of fodder in the 90s post-wilderness timeline, and they can get Showtime silly. Melanie Linskey is a fucking queen.

I've been binging Warrior this past week. I had watched season one before Covid and really enjoyed it, but didn't find my way back to watch the rest until now. Of course I had to re-watch season one to remember the plot, but it was worth it. Come for the sex and violence, stay for the lesson about class/race tensions between the Irish and Chinese in 19th century San Francisco.

Not a TV show, just a very young Melanie being a young fucking queen.

TV Show update: The first three eps of Andor Season 2 dropped today. I have watched the first one and I was not disappointed. You all know I'm a Dedra stan right? Just call me Elon, I want to chug that nazi's boot so fuckin hard.

So, after ep. 3, I relate to Syril so much more than I though possible, and loveworshiplove Dedra even more than before. My inner bootlicker is deeply troubling the outer disorganised rebel me.

A Good American Family on hulu is pretty good. It's 7 episodes in now. It's about Natalia Grace the dwarf that was adopted by that weird family. Ellen Pompeo and Mark Duplass are in it. Also, Stolen Girl on hulu is good. What is up with hulu by the way? They used to put 3 episodes out at the beginning and then continued. Now they are just putting one episode at the start. Messes with my binge yen. :yuck:

Dopesick is another goodie on hulu.

The more times I watch Andor the more I am struck by the sheer moral grey of it all, as well as the stories of the people who didn't have to be in the fight - who could have lived full, prosperous lives within the system of the empire - but still are fighting, and at immense cost to themselves. They are giving up not only their lives and fortunes, but also the more subtly heartbreaking stuff like their morals, principles, peace of mind, families, and reputations, and there is unlikely to be medal ceremonies or other glory for them at the end of the path. If the are very lucky they might survive, possibly only to be judged for some of what they had to do, but chances are they will fall in the fight without the history books even knowing the extent of their sacrifice. Rogue One showed it first, then Luthen said it outright in season 1, and now Mon Mothma is really rubbing it in.

Lately I have - for some reason - spent a lot of time wondering what I would do in such a situation, and am so far one of the lucky ones who are only wondering and not living it.

Because we also have the Syrils and Dedras, who possibly only by sheer chance rather than any significant inherent moral differences are on the other side of the propaganda divide, and are equally strong believers in the justness of their cause, and have themselves done essentially nothing actually immoral so far that I can think of. Cassian, who is after all an actual thief, did set everything off with killing people, and it gets difficult to discern where the moral high ground is, even if we know where we are supposed to stand in the story overall.

If you’ve watched Yellowstone then you know the front story of 1923. I was hesitant to watch it because I thought it would not live up. And really it surpasses, because Yellowstone left on such a flat note. BUT to my point 1923 is well worth the watch now that the 2 seasons are out and it ends.

But further my point. Helen Mirren in 1923 is the mother savior most likable old matronly and biblically strong woman there is.

Now on Paramount and or Prime is MobLand. I had zero interest in watching it because gang shows are so overused. BUT, the hubby has been watching it now I think 6 episodes in. So I begrudgingly watched the first episode. It’s fantastic. And as far as Helen Mirren playing the strong but ever so compassionate lead female. OH boy is she much different in MobLand.
