That tracks. I once volunteered to lead a Bible study at my church. We're talking 20-25 years ago. I chose a study that revolved around Genesis (that was
clearly a mistake, I just didn't realize it at the time). First day, we launch into it and we start talking about Creation. Some people start talking about a literal six-day creation. I say the Church allows for other interpretations. I'm immediately called a heretic. Turns out, the study was populated by converts.
First and last day leading (or even partaking in) Bible study.
Converts are excellent at chasing the life-long Catholics out of the church. They like to use the phrase "cradle Catholic", and a majority of the ones I've had the "pleasure" of coming across definitely use it as a pejorative.
