The administration has been softening their position and talking about Xi, China, and "a deal". They know the consumer is 2-3 months away from price shocks and seeing reduced inventories in stores.

Truck and rail are busy loading warehouses now, but that could come to a halt this summer.

Stores will hold off buying anything if they think a deal is in the works and will try to live off this early inventory. China says no at the last minute and there's a freefall. Prices will have to go up on this inventory to brace balance sheets for higher replacement costs. So I expect inflation first, some scarcity second (with panic buying), dock/rail/and trucking sectors to lose business and jobs kicking off the recession stagflation talk.

It can be avoided by "making a deal" that only raises prices with a smaller tariff. If Trump tries to hold on to something above 25-50%, I bet China walks and tells him to pound
sand.

Softening China rhetoric is moving markets up. But I doubt China gives him a win or easy out.

We - the People (Remember us?) need to get off our dead asses, and make it clear that we are not going to pay those feckin Tariffs. That would encourage China to tell The Donald to pound sand.
Of course there are a lot of feckin shithead MAGA nitwits who still believe that somehow China is going to actually pay those tariffs themselves.

There are still too many folks in this country that think "How stupid can you get?" is a personal challenge.
