McConnell walks back telling businesses to "stay out of politics" yesterday: "I didn't say that very artfully yesterday. They are certainly entitled to be in politics. They are." pic.twitter.com/cG7BNqkgdZ
So a trumpanzee ex-MMA fighter got himself elected to the Huntington Beach, CA City Council in November to stop the spread of malignant socialism. Imagine my surprise at finding out that he's filed an unemployment comp claim, despite his city council paychecks, two successful businesses and $4 million house. Another tragic case of a mighty Galtian ubermensch, lured by the siren song of socialism, trying to suckle from two government teats at once.

House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy can't support a January 6 Commission if its mandate in any way involves investigating the events of January 6.

The journo must have put these sentences next to each other on purpose:
Quote:
Kevin McCarthy [...] said Tuesday morning that he takes issue with the process by which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi developed the legislation and he wants the commission to look into largely unrelated violence around the country after the murder of George Floyd last summer.
"Given the political misdirections that have marred this process, given the now duplicative and potentially counterproductive nature of this effort, and given the Speaker’s shortsighted scope that does not examine interrelated forms of political violence in America, I cannot support this legislation,” he said.
After the winter storm pounded Texas in February and left many Texans without power for extend periods of time, many GOP apologists have described the storm as unforeseeable or once in a century natural disaster and not at all the result of decades of GOP rule.
This is of course bullshit.
Quote:
Ten years ago, Texas power plants froze during a fast-moving winter storm, causing rolling electricity blackouts across the state. Outraged Texas regulators and lawmakers, vowing to crack down, debated requiring energy companies to protect their equipment against extreme weather to ensure reliability.
But they didn’t.
Nine years ago, two state agencies that regulate utilities and the oil and gas industry warned that natural gas facilities that lost power during outages couldn’t feed electricity generation plants, creating a spiral of power loss. The agencies jointly recommended that lawmakers compel gas suppliers and power plants to fix the problem.
But they didn’t.
Eight years ago, economists warned that the state’s free-market grid left companies with little incentive to build enough plants to provide backup power during emergencies. With the support of then-Gov. Rick Perry, legislators and regulators considered increasing power rates to encourage the construction of more power plants, so that Texas, like other states, would have sufficient reserves.
This series documents how 20 million Texans lost power in a deadly freeze after state lawmakers brushed aside a decade of warnings about the increasingly vulnerable electric grid.
While I’m trying to not be too cynical, it’s obviously going to get worse. With all the in fighting, while Texas is looking to get in on their last gasp run at abortion (which I’m hoping will backfire, promoting a ton of backlash while they still figure out who hasn’t kissed Trump’s ring) combined with climate change, I really expect they will get slammed again and they will frame allowing their populace to die while gouging the most possible from them as just a ‘team sacrifice’ some will have to make to allow good and wholesome control over women to flourish.

I don't know what everyone is going on about. Boys will be boys. She was probably asking for it. You know how mature young girls can be at that age. She tricked him into it anyway. At least he isn't, you know, gay or something worse.
That sounds a lot less like Romeo & Juliet and more like Sharia law where her suicide protected her family honor.
It’s kind of interesting to see him be partially cognizant of how pressures from a conservative society damages people and then to continue it like, ‘yeah but what are you going to do, these things happen to others that aren’t me, oh well.’
Yep, once you reach 21 in Texas any amateur is legally allowed to buy booze and tuck a pistol into their pants. I’m sure nothing will go wrong with that!
Just to let you know exactly what this is all about, “Abbott was also joined at Alamo Plaza by Wayne LaPierre, an executive for the National Rifle Association.” Bottom of the barrel scum who is almost certainly fantasizing about all the new gun sales and dead brown people.
While I don’t expect things to go full MadMax, I really wonder what percentage of Texas will need to go through a shootout before realizing maybe the entire concept of “an armed society is a polite society” is a flawed one. Sure Texas isn’t the first state to go this far, but it’s one of the largest to do so, so let the winter ‘you have more right to a concealed weapon than electricity or hospital care’ experiment commence!
Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), who has led the GOP opposition to the elections bill because of its federalized approach to state elections, said “every one of us works for opportunities to work with Sen. Manchin.” But he added that when “Stacey Abrams immediately endorsed Sen. Manchin’s proposal, it became the Stacey Abram’s substitute, not the Joe Manchin substitute.”
I thought about posting this in conservatives say stupid shit, but I think this also illustrates how much they suck.
Obviously this is the fault of the Democrats, who are insufficiently bipartisan in their hearts. They bear the entire burden of accommodating Republicans. It's the Manchin rule.

Just need a few more "hero shot by cops because police couldn't tell good guy with gun from bad guy with gun" stories.
And the fact that a guy who got to live out his fantasy while saving no one is called a hero, is why we will certainly have more.
He went and picked up the shooters rifle… what was he doing looting the body crate for a better weapon? I can’t wait for the family to sue the cops and win because the cops didn’t have their friend/foe option clicked in the settings menu.
