Nope, not yet, it was a vote to authorize the IASTE president to use strike actions if deemed necessary.

Since negotiations are ongoing there’s a lot of *Here we have shown you a gun… Here we are now loading the gun… ok now we’re cocking the gun…* in an attempt to get production companies to take things seriously. So far it sounds like they haven’t.

Many of these workers enjoy the industry and would love it to continue uninterrupted, but they also really love eating food and not being treated like bargain basement help.

John Deere management decided to place salaried non-union workers on the factory floor to replace the striking union workers, I mean how hard could it really be to put together a tractor?

So far one ambulance was called and one tractor has crashed into an electrical box, and this is only the first day.

John Deere puts temporary workers on the factory floor, it goes about how you would expect :: Jalopnik

One thing I haven’t seen really mentioned yet, is John Deere’s stranglehold on repairs, which they promised would get better by Jan 2021, but hasn’t. Right now if a tractor throws an error code, it has to be sent to an authorized dealer who is the only one with the tools to check, fix and clear the code. It’s not that they are just boxing and sending parts to farmers for on field fixes, instead everything goes to an authorized repair center, gets fixed and then sent back. Thus their Flash shipping is meant to soften the blow from their already lengthened repair process.

This has a chance of turning into a complete clusterfuck for the John Deere brand where places stop taking in repairs because they’re overbooked and waiting for parts that may show up late or wrong, and $500,000 machines spend their time in “limp mode” because the farmer can’t just fix it themselves.

ViceLike cars, farm equipment is increasingly controlled by an elaborate and complex web of computer sensors. When one of these sensors notices an error, no matter how small or serious, it puts the machine into “limp mode.” This allows farmers to move the machine slowly but not operate it fully. When the problem is diagnosed and repaired, the error code is cleared and the machine can keep working.

"Right now, the situation is quite bad," Nathan Proctor, the campaign director of Right to Repair at U.S. PIRG, a nonprofit consumer advocate group working on right to repair issues, told Motherboard. "Three years ago, John Deere offered a half measure that was going to take three years to implement. It seemed like a stall tactic at the time. But there was some wait-and-see going on in the farm world. We’ve waited and now we see—it’s not just a half measure, it's Kabuki Theatre. You can't get it."

“It was a simple fix,” Sweiter said. “It was a fuel sensor, it only cost about $800 to actually do the fix. But when it was all said and done, when you paid for freight, when you paid for the hours that it was there, my bill was about $5,000….if I could have just bought that software, I could have known right away my problem and either fixed it or had the dealer come out with the part to fix it. When I shared my story, I heard from farmers all over the state that they’re having the same problem.”

John Deere Promised Farmers It Would Make Tractors Easy to Repair. It Lied.

I read that. Did they actually cover anywhere in the article where elsewhere they would buy?

Will we have fish flown in from Canada? Japan? South Africa?

We’ve our own fish stock problems this side of the Atlantic. If the gulf stream behaves any more oddly the local fish species might be an entirely new ecosystem soon anyway and make their sabre rattling moot.

Wow, Alec Baldwin may have just reignited the IATSE issue of poor conditions and pay. The IATSE strike was tentatively averted with a deal being reached but it hasn’t been ratified by the union yet.

As I think many have seen, Alec Baldwin fired a movie firearm killing the director of photography. Well there’s now way more to this story! Alec Baldwin is one of the producers, writers and stars, having massive control over the set.

LATimesHours before actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of “Rust” with a prop gun, a half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set to protest working conditions.

The camera operators and their assistants were frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film, including complaints of long hours and getting their paychecks, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment.

The cinematographer who was accidentally killed, Halyna Hutchins, had been advocating for safer conditions for her team, said one crew member who was on the set.

As the camera crew — members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees — spent about an hour assembling their gear at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, several nonunion crew members showed up to replace them, the knowledgeable person said.

A member of the producer staff then ordered the union members to leave the set. She said if they didn’t leave, the producers would call security to remove them.

There were two misfires on the prop gun on Saturday and one the previous week, the person said, adding “there was a serious lack of safety meetings on this set.”

Alec Baldwin :Rust: camera crew walked off before shooting - Los Angeles Times

So the safety standards were so lacking the camera crew walked off the set, and only hours later one of the people calling the ‘shots’ and allowing the poor safety standards to continue, killed the DP in a safety accident.

In the other thread I said this might result in changing what guns are used, I take that back, I think this is going to be a catalyst for unions to fight for completely new safety standards.
