Need thrad for topic. Authoritarianism doesn't stop at Trump.

So I been futzing around wondering where Kim Campbell got to, I like to check in on what she's commenting on from time to time, her being what I like to call the last of the sane conservatives before the whole thing turned to shit. Found this thrad:

Authoritarianism is abuse. And as I wrote in 2017, "Fundamentalism is authoritarianism in microcosm, or on the margins. Fascism is essentially fundamentalism in power." Evangelicals have been doing "alternative facts" since before it was cool.

Oh yes conservatives follow an authoritarian model and basically see everyone on a Hierarchy. Those above you can treat you however they want and those bellow you can be treated however you want. So not only does the abuse roll down hill but since those above you have no obligation to be nice to you, you should be extra hopeful they are but shouldn’t demand it. Hence the many outdated workers who cut ice for ice boxes or dig coal for naughty children would love if Trump followed through on his promises to them, but they will just wither away and die or freak out and kill themselves or others before they will demand Trump live up to his word.

Seeing through this authoritarian mindset makes anything that doesn’t fit scary and confusing. Some parts of homophobia come from confusion over ranks, a gay guy is a guy, so in the guy rank but also likes guys which is something women do and so is in the lower women’s rank? ‘Oh god where does he stand on the totem pole, I don’t know how to interact like this!!!’ Hence “which one is the man and which is the woman” is not just to fit into a heteronormative framework but to better rank them in the authoritarian hierarchy.

This is also why I think punching Nazis is good. In the authoritarian ranking I would rather we be telling Nazis that we are ranked above them, so shut up, than to let the nazi figure out where we stand for themselves.
