Re: First World Problems
We have a massage benefit at work, and each year on our work anniversary we are gifted some quantity of massage "points". I've worked here over 7 years and I had only taken advantage of the massage benefit maybe 2-3 times before the shutdown, and obviously zero times during the shutdown.
Now I'm back at the office and I am stiff and tight and out of shape, and I looked and I had a balance of 440 massage points. A 15-minute chair massage costs 20 points, so that's like 22 massages. I checked the internet for what is a good massage frequency and it said every 2-3 weeks. So I made a little recurring reminder in my calendar, I'm going to get a chair massage every other Monday for the next damn year.
Two weeks ago, I sat down with Mia and had a wonderful massage. I was super excited to get back in the chair this morning, but she fucking flaked. She sent me an email the morning of the appointment to tell me she had to cancel, which I didn't see until I decided to check it once Mia seemed to be running 10 minutes late to a 15-minute appointment. (Also, go ahead and guess what happens if I want to cancel within 24 hours?) So I booked the next available appointment with Gail, who works in the same building, which Mia could have done instead of just bailing on me.
So obviously I was like, "Fuck Mia, I'll go with Gail from now on." But Mia's massage was sooooooo much better than Gail's, so I have to stick with the flake. That's the First World Problem.

it's 1pm EST and I have already heard Thriller, Monster Mash & Ghostbusters at least 3 times.
Werewolves of London - that one, I didn't mind.

Re: First World Problems
So, looking around to find which theaters are showing the new Bond flick, and Dune.
It's a two hour drive from our home on the Prairie to the nearest Theater.
Sheesh! a friggin' Daytrip to see a movie.
I miss being able to just take a 10 minute walk down to the old Fox theater.

I chainsawed one of the barberry bushes back to the ground today, as close as I could safely cut it with the chainsaw, and then covered it with burlap. My hope is that the burlap will keep any new buds from taking root, and that the severe pruning will stress the plant enough to kill it after the frost. I don't want to use any herbicide unless I need to.
In round 2 today, I went up against a different bush, some sort of woody evergreen, maybe Japanese holly, I don't know. I also hate it. I have read that evergreen shrubs can't tolerate severe pruning, so I took it way back in hopes that eventually I will be able to dig the rootball out and it will be gone for good. That is going to be a very big project. The base of it is the size of a fucking tree, 8 or 9 inches in diameter. It is right in front of the house, so it looks a little different with it gone. My husband came out and was like "If you cut it back that far, won't it kill it?" and I was like "God I hope so."
I was going to do both that and the other Japanese barberry today but I am exhausted. That one bush produced a huge amount of yard waste. One more barberry to go. May also take on the crape myrtle, but I know that's going to be futile. Native pollinators are going in next spring.
Also I need a wood chipper.

Twice this week, I couldn't find my pens and as a result had to use the wrong kind of pen.
I was brave about it, but still.

Re: First World Problems
Scam calls seem to be breaking through to my voice mail instead of just hanging up, although I’m not entirely sure if that’s a bad thing as hearing the exact same bad clip of an ‘amazon’ customer service bot does let me know for certain that was a scam call.

The only one I constantly get is "We are giving you one final courtesy call before your extended warranty expires ..."
If I block the obvious scam caller in time, I don't get the voicemail; otherwise I do.
One final spam call
The voicemail bot always lies
Some day will be true.

Re: First World Problems
The company that runs the laundry rooms in the apartment complex decided to switch all the machines over to an app/QR code format without telling anyone, just one day, boom all the machines are ‘smart.’
While in theory good for the future, this has left people with useless laundry cards, and they appear to have learned the stubbornness of our apartment residence as they are here again leaving forms to send in your card and replacing QR code stickers people ripped off to try and use the machines with their card.

My After Eight advent calendar gave me the same liqueur-filled yuck it gave me yesterday.
ETA: the filling is actually different, they just looked identical. So I am withdrawing my strongly worded letter to Nestlé. But still, leave days in between those plz.

It is snowing here, enough so that we probably won't leave the house — we probably can't get the car up the driveway anyway. My first world problem: I ran out of coffee, and was planning to pick some up today.
