Doctor Who came back tonight, and the episode ended with one of the best plot twists the show has had in a while. I was watching the episode with a bunch of other fans, and there was a series of audible gasps at the end of the episode as people caught on to what was happening. If you haven’t caught up, I’d advise you not to look up any info about the show, because there will be spoilers in unexpected places. I can’t actually tell you what particular bits of show lore to avoid, because that itself would serve as a spoiler, so… just avoid anything.
I don’t know about elsewhere, but they’ll be showing the first two episodes in cinemas in the U.S. this Sunday (this one’s a two-part story). I may go see it. There would be a lot of rewatch bonuses in the first part.
…seriously, if you haven’t seen “Spyfall Part 1” yet, don’t click this:
I can already tell the new Master is going to be a lot of fun. Honestly, this might be the best reveal on the show since we found out who Missy was… so in other words, since more or less the last time they did this exact same reveal. (I don’t know if I’d count the return of the Simm Master because it’s not exactly the same thing.) Serious kudos to the production staff for keeping this one under wraps until the episode aired; it must’ve taken a herculean effort.
I actually haven’t seen all of the last season yet (real-life stuff got in the way of my TV viewing), but this is probably the best Chibnall episode I’ve seen to date.

Mostly the purpose of this post is for me to have a reference of what day of the week my new shows come out, so I can quit searching for new eps every day and getting let down.
The Stand - only one episode left on Feb 11. American Gods - Sunday night / Monday morning Your Honor - also only one episode left on Feb 14, but have I seen the previous one? I must have. Resident Alien - Wednesdays ... that's today! WandaVision - Fridays
I dig it in part because of the wide variety of Muslims that they portray. They are various amounts of devout and how they express their belief varies.
It came out last year and was canceled. It isn't highly rated on rottentomatoes, but I really liked the show. It's a bit of a mess in ways but I love alot of what they do. It was adapted by Grant Morrison of comicbook writing fame.
Now that they days are getting shorter, and the weather turns cooler, my thoughts go to horror...
Slasher films are kind of my "light" viewing choice. It's rare that a slasher film invokes existential dread, but good ones can come up with some tense, exciting scenes. Shudder apparently revived a series named "Slasher" and it seemed like a good choice for doing bills.
It was. It's an anthology series, like "American Horror Story," where a fairly consistent cast tells a story across a season. In the latest season, a rich industrial barron summons his entire family to his remote island home. He's dying of cancer, and chose this weekend to euthanize himself. In order to determine his heir, the family must participate in "games" - the winner is the sole heir, everyone else will get nothing.
After the first game, the loser gets attacked by a person in an elaborate costume, nicknamed "the Gentleman" by the series, and suffers a nasty death witnessed by the whole family. The family learns that the patriarch thinks none of the family has the "killer instinct" to run his business and this weekend is designed to cull out the weak and leave a survivor. Things get wilder from there, as the family's allegiances shift, fights break out, and the games get more vicious.
I liked the premise of Saw-like elaborate games, but the show didn't rely too heavily on that. When it comes down to it, it's just a matter of survival for each family member.
If I can find them, I'll probably watch the other seasons.
I really enjoyed The Expanse on Amazon Prime, and the scuttlebutt says they're do one more season.
I love everybody on the expanse except Holden Gary Stu who I find an insufferable asshole. I love the physics and the general hard scifi of the show's initial setup. I have a special love in my heart for Amos.
We started watching due to your post alerting us to its having become available. bey was into it but I had to bail. So boring! The planet building and tech were pretty but the dialogue sounds like it was written by a dusty old white man in the 40s.
Ha! I’ve payed Foundations no mind as I never got into it, like a lot of Asimov’s work that doesn’t revolve around robots, AI or the ethics of robots and AI, but now I’m intrigued, maybe I’ll have to steal and episode to find out!
Unrelated, what you’re watching this fall may take a hit as multiple hollywood chapters of the IATSE (stage workers union) are considering a strike for better conditions and pay. Which has only been galvanized by some rich exec’s comments that they can’t strike because they’re too poor to survive. Which many have taken as an admission they aren’t paid enough.
Brilliantly written and compellingly portrayed. My only reservation is that it constitutes a pretty trenchant hatchet job on Hasidism, which for all I know (which is of course next to nothing, which of course is kind of central to the drama and the issue)) may be unjustified. So there's that health-warning. I have no other hesitation in recommending this as some of the best television I have ever seen.
ETA: It occurs to me that this isn't new for this autumn. So it may be should have gone somewhere else?

We watched the first two episodes of what was supposedly Foundation. I agree with ChuckF, whatever it was, it wasn't Foundation. And it was pretty bad.
Taking a break on long series after my Lucifer binge, I watched two limited series on Netflix.
Clickbait was a bit of a downer but had a mystery that took many twists and turns. Just when I thought I had it figured out, it would take a turn. I did not see the end coming.
Midnight Mass is interesting and bloody. It's a new take on an old monster tale and I'm still trying to decide whether I like it.
