Since it became a political thing, I have been predicting that people weren't going to take it seriously until it got to the saturation point where, in any even small group, someone would have personal experience with it.
We are now past that point here. Just in the past few days, we've gotten news of maybe six or seven people one of us knows who have it.
We've been isolating pretty hard, but it's time to go even harder now.

I suspect that due to how social networks work, either people know nobody with it or an awful lot.

On Russia, Covid is STILL making people fall from heights there. At least in the spring it was just whistleblower doctors "falling". Covid-19 patients jumping from high rise buildings

Chinese aviation body suggests flight attendants wear diapers on board planes | CNN Travel
Quote:
A section on PPE advises cabin crew on flights to and from high-risk countries to wear "medical masks, double-layer disposable medical gloves, goggles, disposable hats, disposable protective clothing, and disposable shoe covers."
The next sentence reads: "It is recommended that cabin crew members wear disposable diapers and avoid using the lavatories barring special circumstances to avoid infection risks."

Re: Winnie the Flu
Ya know, it seems like at the point you’re suggesting diapers to reduce infection rate of people in the same craft as those you expect to be infected, it’s time to shut things down.
Capitalism: “No! Stop bad! Money good!”
Speaking of, the pandemic has broken marketing for me. Is there any sincere marketing left? I’ve been amazed at the number of companies that make ultimately unimportant items in the apocalypse go double down on how “now more than ever” their product is what you should buy in these complicated times. Yet now more than ever I see every ad as just screaming CONSUME at me. It’s not like I believed marketing before, but it didn’t feel so cynically hateful.

We were considering getting new cheap rugs because the current cheap rugs are getting near the end of their useful dog hair/cat vomit lives, and now I get served ads all the time about rugs. One of them was like "We know how important your comfort in your home is right now, BUY SOME RUGS!" which really had the effect of drawing attention to how little we actually needed new rugs anyway, because fuck it, nobody has to see them except us.
Unrelated but there is a project manager at work (please do not ask my opinion on people with the title project manager) who, without fail in every single call since March, uses the phrase "in these COVID times" at least once. Sometimes it makes some sort of sense, i.e. a sense of connection is important in these COVID times. Sometimes it's a pretty great non-sequitur, like, let's get a new scope from this vendor for these COVID times!

That is just awesome.
I like the "Carbon is the number of the beast" angle ... and now they've decided that increased CO2 in the air they breathe is a bad thing ... maybe we can get them to believe in reducing Satanic CO2 in the atmosphere?

Re: Winnie the Flu
SF was doing so well and officials were like, “You’re doing so well, we can reopen and pretend this doesn’t exist” and all of SF said, OK! Well now, friday we go into hard lockdown again, with a 10 day quarantine for anyone visiting the bay.
I now understand all those stories/movies where the eye of the storm hits and the redshirts fling open the cellar door and declare the storm over.

Re: Winnie the Flu
Getting COVID due to carelessness at this stage is like being an Olympic runner who starts the celebration 10m before the finish line, trips over their own feet, and ends up the bronze medalist on the podium.

Re: Winnie the Flu
I haven't, or at least if I have, I was asymptomatic. My husband is participating in an antibody study and should get the first kit soon, so we'll find out. As far as I know, no first degree connections have. Several second degree connections have, including a distant cousin who died of it.

My niece just recently had it. Also Flying Monkeys sister had it awhile back. We have thankfully completely avoided it.

Re: Winnie the Flu
We've been isolating pretty hard, and have managed not to get it (to our knowledge), but we know multiple people who have. Apart from the one woman who got it really bad early on (who was really just an acquaintance), all have either been working with the public, or acting oblivious to some degree.
And my sister is pretty sure she had it early on and is still feeling sick from it.
