Facebook had it rough last week. Leaked documents—many leaked documents—formed the backbone of a string of reports published in The Wall Street Journal. Together, the stories paint the picture of a company barely in control of its own creation. The revelations run the gamut: Facebook had created special rules for VIPs that largely exempted 5.8 million users from moderation, forced troll farm content on 40 percent of America, created toxic conditions for teen girls, ignored cartels and human traffickers, and even undermined CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s own desire to promote vaccination against COVID.
Now, Facebook wants you to know it’s sorry and that it’s trying to do better.
I think it's time to close Facebook down for good. This is beyond ridiculous.

In the complaint, the former employee detailed how Facebook officials frequently declined to enforce safety rules for fear of angering Donald Trump and his allies or offsetting the company’s huge growth. In one alleged incident, Tucker Bounds, a Facebook communications official, dismissed concerns about the platform’s role in 2016 election manipulation.
“It will be a flash in the pan,” Bounds said, according to the affidavit, as reported by the Post. “Some legislators will get pissy. And then in a few weeks they will move on to something else. Meanwhile, we are printing money in the basement, and we are fine.”
It really hammers home how facebook doesnt see any other reality but their own.
Its not even AR like the google glass, just sunglasses with a camera, microphone and headphones. It lasts 3 hours of continuous facebook assistant use, while taking an hour ten to charge. To take a photo your options are to either tap a button on the glasses, or say Hey facebook take a photo while in a low noise environment and Im sure that wont get tiresome fast!
If the assignment was put four things people already own together in a way that reduces the usability of each item. Theyve done an amazing job and thats not even getting into the bonus points for and make others feel uncomfortable as well.
Assuming, because you know it will happen eventually, that privacy invasion does become that normalised, what can we do to start preparing?
Let's normalise the wearing of facemasks - traditional eye masks as well as medical nose-and-mouth masks.
Even tech-enhanced facemasks that can display different contour-busting graphics at different times. Let them optionally display logos and adverts too, so the right-wing reactionaries have to accept the trend.
Ooh, what about veils? It's my right to wear a burqa if I want to. That could really incense the MAGATs.
Are there any western (ideally) Christian (or possibly Jewish) sects that suggest men wear face coverings? We'll need a "religious exemption" card for use in 'MURICA.
Yes, but that mask is still a sign of rebelling. I'd like something that can be normalised so even the cops accept it. I mean, it's impossible, but still.

Facebook is changing its name to Meta. "Knock knock!" "Who's there?" "Meta!" "Meta who?" "Meta whistleblower & instead of improving the way we do business, we're gonna pretend to be a new business!"
