Alas alas. The veil is falling fast. Any pretense to adhere to the values of a free, democratic society are gone with the wind. Israel is fast becoming, with the blessing of the USA, a fascistic, bright-wing, authoritarian state. Alas.

After his transparent stunt addressing Republicans in Congress, which was clearly intended to kick off his re-election campaign, Netanyahu returns home to a veritable shitstorm, most of it self-inflicted. The notion that he may not win re-election is quickly becoming plausible. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Once upon a time, Israel was a country of egalitarian ideals — the kibbutz population was always a small minority, but it had a large impact on the nation’s self-perception. And it was a fairly equal society in reality, too, right up to the early 1990s.
For Jews that is. Ashkenzai Jews mostly, the Jews from the Arab countries were always 2nd class in a country with a lot of classes.

The Shebaa Farms are in Lebanon, at least according to Syria and Lebanon. Israel claims it is Syrian territory but they still insist it is theirs to occupy. Not that you will hear that from the new and totally Consevatized BBC.

True, there's no mention there of Israel claiming the area is Syrian, but is that omission particularly significant?

Yes, that is significant. Because this seems to say it is not occupied because it is Syrian, not Lebanese. Fact remains it's occupied. The UN just claims it is Syrian territory, not Lebanese, and belonging to the occupied Golan Heights which Israel claims as their territory. A claim that is not recognized by anyone else. So either way, nobody is disputing that it's occupied territory, they are disputing Lebanon's and therefore Hezbollah's claim to defend it.

No, it doesn't, and "The area was captured by Israel and annexed in 1981 along with the rest of the Golan Heights, a move not internationally recognised." makes it pretty clear to me that it is occupied by Israel.
I don't understand why you are directing any of your umbrage at the reporting here. Save it for the Israeli government, dude.
Re: The generic "Look at what Israel's doing now" thread
Nonsense, Watser? You are doing that idealist revolutionary thing of getting more absorbed in attacking those on your side who are maybe not quite as zealous as you are, than defeating the other side.
Re: The generic "Look at what Israel's doing now" thread
The BBC is not free to be as polemical as The Electronic Intifada, certainly, and Zionists are good at applying pressure on the BBC to self-censor its Israel coverage. But "The BBC speaks for the Israeli government" is just petulant hyperbole.

Another chilling story from the occupied west Bank.

The Huffington Post reports
According to an Israeli army spokesman cited by the Associated Press, Hadeel al-Hashlamon had “attempted to stab a soldier”, resulting in the soldier firing live ammunition at her “lower extremities.”
The man who took the photographs told the newspaper: “She was trying to show him what was inside her bag but the soldier shot her once, and then shot her again.”
