Re: MI just beat out WI for Kochsuckery
Here we go. The first 'order' to take away the ability for the elected officials to do anything without the approval of the 'Emergency Manager'.
Anyone want to bet their lake front park won't be sold to the rich enclave that wants it for a couple more holes on their golf course while the course enjoys a tax reduction on the backs of the elderly and poor??

saw that last night. It almost sounds like it had been in the planning stages for awhile, doesn't it? It desn't sound like there was anything coincidental about it.

I guess the plan is to replace schools with prisons and voters with prisoners.

The best part is that this time we can watch it in 3-D on wide screen TVs.

Re: MI just beat out WI for Kochsuckery
This has been pretty big news on the local stations recently. If I were teaching in the Detroit schools, I'd be looking for employment elsewhere. Even if I was all but certain my contract was going to be renewed, I'd be looking for employment elsewhere. From what I can gather, the atmosphere is pretty toxic and teacher morale is very low.
Though I have to say that the situation isn't necessarily a whole lot better at the college/university level ...

You can listen to the whole Ryan Harvey half of The Revolution Will Not Be Amplified at Archive. This is the page of Tom Frampton's half (for a strange reason, the Archive.org embedded player and streamed files don't work for me on this page, but the individual MP3s are fine when downloaded ).

Michigan Republicans: Let's Privatize Public School Teaching | Mother Jones
Quote:
Michigan Republican Sen. Phil Pavlov, who chairs the state Senate's education committee, is preparing legislation that would allow public school districts to hire teachers through private, for-profit companies. Privatizing the hiring process would presumably allow school districts to bypass compensation packages sought by teachers unions and let private companies compete for contracts with districts.

Re: MI just beat out WI for Kochsuckery
From what I understand, Snyder requires a certain percentage of outsourcing from school districts in order to qualify for full state funding. Flint very nearly outsourced all their bus drivers but SEIU managed to save the jobs by giving up all vacation, sick and personal time and paying 50% of their health care.
I am SO glad the library doesn't need to jump through those hoops for state funds. They just flat out cut it 40% without dangling carrots to make us screw our unions.

Jesus Fucking Christ.
Quote:
“What is the proper salary of a dictator?” asked Flint resident Paul Jordan, one of many Michigan residents who has sued the state, saying the emergency manager law overreaches. “Certainly it’s a very big job. But on the other hand, here the people who are paying his salary had no opportunity to hire him.”
Flint’s emergency manager, Michael Brown, is paid $170,000 a year, according to his contract. . . .
. . .
Mayor Dayne Walling’s was Flint’s highest-paid elected official, receiving $91,800 before Brown eliminated his pay and benefits and those of city council members.

So, yeah. Hooray for the freedom-loving, small government teabillies. And stuff.

It's all about the back nine. Everybody knows you can't give poor people access to waterfront property, especially in everloving perpetuity, because waterfront is for rich people. We need it for Jack Nicklaus golf courses. Jeezus H Christ, don't you gaiz know anything?

Naomi Klein= useless communist bitch,a liar,an hypocrite, the female non-fat equivalent of Michael Moore
She went too far when she attacked Milton Friedman, one of the best non-austrian economist, with lie about how he was linking with Pinochet when Milton Friedman gave the same advice at the Chinese Communist Party too

Re: MI just beat out WI for Kochsuckery
Quote:
All kinds of people today call themselves “libertarians,” especially something calling itself the New Right, which consists of hippies, except that they’re anarchists instead of collectivists. But of course, anarchists are collectivists. Capitalism is the one system that requires absolute objective law, yet they want to combine capitalism and anarchism. That is worse than anything the New Left has proposed. It’s a mockery of philosophy and ideology. They sling slogans and try to ride on two bandwagons. They want to be hippies, but don’t want to preach collectivism, because those jobs are already taken. But anarchism is a logical outgrowth of the anti-intellectual side of collectivism. I could deal with a Marxist with a greater chance of reaching some kind of understanding, and with much greater respect. The anarchist is the scum of the intellectual world of the left, which has given them up. So the right picks up another leftist discard. That’s the Libertarian movement.
