A More Perfect Union
Is there a thread dedicated to labor unions on this forum? If not, there is now. If there is someone will post a link in the replies and you never have to see this again.
I understand four Michigan Starbucks (including two in my hometown Ann Arbor) have filed with the NLRB to unionize. I feel like this is part of a growing trend across the country across all industries, but maybe my bubble is small.

Re: A More Perfect Union
For anyone who hasn't been paying attention, there are now SIXTY unionized Starbucks locations across the country, the NLRB has filed extensive charges against Starbucks for union-busting, there is an active Teamsters campaign to publicize the horrendous conditions for workers at Amy's Kitchen (which has a strong chance, imo, of leading to unionization), and Congressional staffers just won the right to unionize. That's just off the top of my head, but the moral of the story seems to be that unionization is rising in popularity in this country and it's about damn time.

Get crap service? Don’t rage at the staff! Be a Constructive Karen!
Hand the staff information about local unions and how to organize.

Re: A More Perfect Union
I see that today is the 75th anniversary of Harry Truman vetoing the odious mound of shit known as the Taft-Hartley Act.
With the labor movement at the height of its power in the mid-1940s, wingnuts in Congress introduced one union-restricting bill after another. The final result was Taft-Hartley, which did away with highly effective tactics like wildcat strikes, secondary picketing, mass boycotts, closed shops, and union donations to political campaigns. It also authorized states to enact the Orwellianly-titled "right-to-work" laws.
Unfortunately, Truman's veto didn't hold up. Within a week both houses of Congress voted to override. Taft-Hartley thus became the law and American labor never really recovered.

It probably was a question, but it was weeks ago, you can't expect me to remember what I may have been thinking.

Re: A More Perfect Union
President Biden made history today as the first sitting President to join union workers on a picket line. He joined UAW President Shawn Fain and a group of strikers today at the Willow Run plant a couple miles from my house.
