Re: Bits and PCs - a Computers and Tech Miscellany
I came to the realization that I will be working from home for the foreseeable future, and even when I do go back to the office, I believe I will still be working from home at least twice a week. I've been working from laptops, but I have been wanting multiple screens, so I'm updating my home office with a new monitor and new bluetooth mouse & keyboard.
I have limited space in my current desk, so the biggest monitor I can get is 27" or so. I think 4K seems excessive at 27". I have 2 27" 2K monitors at work, and I think it works fine. Plus, I'm not sure any of my laptops can handle more than 2K. I purchased a 27" 2K monitor to replace the 24" 1080p one. The only thing I don't like is that the new one is a 16:9 aspect ratio, and the current one is 16:10, which I like better for photo editing.
I bought a Microsoft keyboard and mouse, because I can get it at a decent price, and I wanted a bluetooth keyboard that works well enough with Mac and PC. (I'm actually using a Microsoft mouse with the Mac right now. I am still annoyed about the scrolling.)
So, during the dark months that follow, I will be spending more time in my basement office. I may still choose to work on a laptop some days, simply because I can get sunlight in the living room.

In many ways my home office - set up way before the covid era - is good: I have space, I have external keyboards and monitors, and I have a view outside with trees and sky.
(The space in the office is absolutely full of stuff that I need to sort out, and the trees mentioned are around a motorway, but it's still good.)

I have an iPhone 6 I’ve absolutely loved that’s now four product cycles old. As far as I can tell there are only two things limiting its lifespan; that apple stopped updating it around iOS12, and the hassle of replacing an aging battery.
I could see updating to a new phone for things like a much higher quality camera system, but really all the stuff I want to do on the phone work perfectly fine. It is quite absurd to think about going through four phones in the time I’ve had the 6.

I appreciate you trying to protect my delicate sensibilities, Bing, but the translation was not useful.

Imagine the robot apocalypse in the form of animatronic Michael Jacksons singing Thriller and moonwalking through the streets.

Re: Bits and PCs - a Computers and Tech Miscellany
The autonomous vehicle apocalypse is coming! Over the last couple weeks when out for a walk, Ive seen around ten Waymo cars, two Waymo experimental vehicles and four Cruise cars, just on my local road. While I do live in SF, its the out of the way ass end of SF, so its still surprising.
I havent tried to jump out in front of one, yet, and so far I havent seen one without a human behind the wheel, but that day is coming.

Re: Bits and PCs - a Computers and Tech Miscellany
The Japanese robot is learning how cute it needs to be before it can get away with knocking people over. This is just an experiment, of course.
