Beulah, Make Me a Veggie Burger
I like veggie burgers but have never tried to make me own. It's high time I tore the veil. I like the look of this one (with a few obvious modifications), but I was hoping for one with more actual veggies. Do you have any successful veggie burger recipes you can attest to?

Sort of on the same line are black bean burgers. I just came from a food blog with a good recipe and this thread is here!
Vegetarian: Black Bean Burger | Victor Tangermann Photography Food Blog
This is a good looking recipe complete with step by step pics for the kitchen-clumsy. I usually fry mine in a pan as it's tons easier than throwing on a grill.

Wow, that could not be any easier. I have some exceptionally good leftover bread crumbs to use, too. I wonder if I could replace the bell pepper with carrots.

Re: Beulah, Make Me a Veggie Burger
I have made black bean burgers twice. The first time they came out too wet and I decided it would be best to sautee the mushrooms first to sweat out the water and it took care of that.
Ingredients:
I can low sodium black beans
8 oz button mushrooms, chopped
1 small shallot, minced
Olive oil
Bread Crumbs
1 egg
Parmesan cheese
Salt, pepper and spices to taste.
Sautee shallots and mushrooms in olive oil until mushrooms have given up their water. Place in food processor with black beans and pulse until it takes the consistency of a paste. Beat egg in bowl and add breadcrumbs, cheese and spices and mix. Add black bean mixture to bowl and mix thoroughly. If it is too soft, add more breadcrumbs, if too dry add some milk.
I'm afraid I never measure my breadcrumbs or parmesan so I can't give you those. I just make it the way I would meatballs or meatloaf and it seems to work.

In my experience, no burger the name of which includes the prefix "veggie" (or any of its derivatives) can compare in taste to a rare-to-medium-rare grilled (only lightly pressed into shape) all-beef patty seasoned with "Road Kill Grill" rub.

Re: Beulah, Make Me a Veggie Burger
Grilling a portabella mushroom also works pretty well, also falafel.

Re: Beulah, Make Me a Veggie Burger
It's a smart way to help those soft materials stick together a little. I'm thinking of throwing in an egg and some bread crumbs (actually crumbs I made from these crazy delicious lentil and rosemary crackers I stumbled on at the farmer's market) to help with that.

E basta. I like burgers just fine. I have spoken of my previous efforts in burgers and patty melts in this very talk forum. Now I'm speaking of another kind of patty item. All y'all need to get over it.

Does anyone have a good falafel recipe that translates well to baking or just regular pan-frying? I don't do deep frying at home, so whenever I try making falafel, it ends up all crumbly and pathetic.
Also, yeah, what mr. drusus said. Veggie burgers are not fake hamburgers. They're a completely different thing, so all y'all are sounding like those fussy little babbys who order hamburgers at Chinese restaurants.

Re: Beulah, Make Me a Veggie Burger
I haven't tried this one, but it sounds pretty good. Also someone in the notes said you could soak the falafel balls in oil for a few seconds then bake which sounds like one way to get around the crumble factor.
