Did some Channukah/Christmas/Birthday shopping during lunch today. At Toys R Us, I found something that I got for my daughter...and since it was "Buy One, Get One Free", I would've been a fool to not get one for me.

Tooling cost is the reason why Applejack is hatless. If she had a molded-on hat, then ALL the Earth Ponies would have to have hats. And that ain't right.

It's also why you see two different Unicorns and two different Earth Pony figures, but only one Pegasus body style. The wings on the Pegasus makes for a more complicated tooling, so therefore a more costly mold.

Hasbro probably had to watch every penny of development cost on this project because it was a TRU exclusive. As such, TRU must have kept Hasbro to a very low unit cost.

Very cool episode, lots of Dash (who needed some attention), no deviating from 'standard' character behaviour for laughs (so it'll be funnier when they do that later), awesome new song, and plenty of hilarious quips from the rest of the team.

I eagerly await the two episode summary raps, the 8-bit remix of the pet song, the techno remix, the trance remix, the electric guitar cover, and the remixes of the aforementioned remixes.

This episode made us laugh out loud more than most, the auditions leading up to the race were hilarious, I love that the eagle and Dash were curling...because that's chock full of style!

Other new-to-use episodes we caught were The Ticketmaster, Applebuck Season and Griffon the Brush-Off. Of the three, I liked Applebuck Season the most, great physical comedy.

I have been speculating on Dashie's pet for a while and I loled that many of my ideas were in there. Also, the turtle she is packaged with in the toyline is squee-arific and I thought that would be a hilarious choice and we got it! Though it looks nothing like Tank.

I LOVED the message for this episode. So often when kids think about getting a pet it is for all of Dash's reasons. It should be "cool" and "awesome" and "radical" with no thought given to anything else. The kid thinks of all the selfish reasons and not about companionship or what THEY need to give the pet. For kids and anypony, owning a pet is about giving care and love, not about looks or prestige. I don't think I have seen a kid's show address this issue in such a way before and I think it is BRILLIANT.

Perhaps less animals will be bought and neglected because of this show. Perhaps fewer pocket pets will die. Often kids will rush to get the "cool" pet after seeing it in a movie or on TV, like the Dalmatians after 101, but parent's can't go out an necessarily get their kids a steam punk helio-tort now can they? I thought that was also a brilliant way to end it.

OH. And I have so wanted a Flutter-Dash duet. Recently somepony asked what songs the fans wanted to see and that was exactly what I asked for! Because in my mind it would be like Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews at Carnegie Hall, AND IT WAS JUST LIKE THAT!

Also I was so glad to see the adorableness of my favorite pony front and center. Fluttershy's face when Dash says she wants a pet was priceless and her "carrying" Dash in her enthusiasm was so freaking cute! Her example of letting Tank participate for all the right reasons was greatness. And yes, the "Yay?" was absolutely adorable.

Less adorable was the chimera pet at the beginning with the Aliens inspired Opal coming out the mouth, but boy did I lol. And how awesome was the talent competition? The Eagle knitting a brony-esque sweater with Dash on it cracked me up!

I am not even going to try to talk about all the awesome moments in that episode because there are too many. I think it actually bumped my previous favorite, Green Isn't Your Color which is no small feat.

I wouldn't quite describe it that way. Gilda is the one that walks out on Dash after all. Dash is forced by Gilda to make a choice between her old friend and her new "lame" ones. Instead of folding to her old friend she makes the choice to stay and be with the ponies because she can see that Gilda is not being a good friend. So I think the lesson was to be loyal to your true friends and not bend to peers who try to split you from them for selfish reasons. Dash exemplified the spirit of loyalty on that one by letting Gilda walk away and make her own choice.

Which is another great lesson that kids need to hear a billion times or more.
