Finally in the 70's after a few weeks >90. I haven't spent August in Michigan in 20 yrs. but I swear it used to be cooler.

The weather is so perfect today, I can hardly believe it. Currently 75° with a slight breeze from the SSW at around 7MPH. I wish i could save this as a file and play it back on shitty days.

California is getting some much needed rain, but sadly thanks the the fires that comes with some crazy landslides.
A recent slide blocking Highway 70 courtesy of WXChasing drone footage. The truck helps give a bit of perspective, some of those boulders are bus sized if not bigger.

The city one exit north of us is under mandatory evacuation from out of control wildfires. They've only got a few smallish evacuation shelters for everyone in that town and some surrounding areas, so those are going to be pretty major hotspots.
It's really smoky here, but we're not in immediate trouble right now. I think the wind is blowing it in the other direction.
And there's also a winter storm warning, too, so I'm hoping that wins.

They've evacuated another adjacent city now, too, and it's not contained yet, so we could be next. This was from a few hours ago, about 7 miles from here:

We're going to get emergency stuff ready to go and I'll stay up late tonight just in case we need to leave.
I hope that storm gets here early, though, because I don't want to do that.

I’d get whatever you want to evacuate with tossed in a car. It’s easier to have to unload stuff than to mad dash at evacuation orders.

Putting the emergency stuff in a car is a good idea. I think we'll do that.
I'm also going to put some changes of clothes on the bed so I can just roll them up with the good warm blankets if we need to go. We are not going to stay inside some evacuation shelter, so we'll need lots of blankets if we have to leave. But if we don't, I'm going to need them tonight.
Just saw they're evacuating parts of our city now.

We're good. We were about 5 miles east of the evacuations, but they were also saying to leave if you could see flames. I think our (surviving) next door neighbors left fairly early in the evening.
Anyways, we got our emergency stuff packed and I stayed up to keep an eye on things until they started scaling back the evacuation areas and had it contained enough that we didn't have to worry.
We'd arranged to meet Mabel and her son and caravan away from the fires until we could find a hotel with rooms or at least a Walmart with a big parking lot. None of us wanted to risk a shelter, especially since Colorado had 3 of the top 5 countywide COVID hotspots in the country yesterday.
But it's pretty cleared out now, and it's finally starting to snow.
Now we just have to put all that emergency stuff back where it belongs. (We have practice for next time, though!)
