Just reinstalled my OS. Nothing like some new years cleaining. Especially when you have a 2 TB drive to back stuff up on. The first game I installed was Rome: Total War. I am currently dominating as the Julii. Strength and Honor and all that stuff. Watered down wine, yeah.

Re: Video Games - Watcha playin'?
I got a wealth of games over Christmas.
Donkey Kong Country Returns - a great game for anyone who liked Donkey Kong Country and DKC 2: Diddy's Kong-Quest. So far I'd say better than DKC1, but maybe not better than DKC2 (which set a high standard). Load times are my only complaint (especially in situations where it's reloading the level you're already on, just putting you at the beginning and resetting the timer!).
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Fun little RPG, removed some of the annoying things from the original (certain buttons being assigned to talking to people and menus was annoying, but can probably be blamed on the GBA's small number of buttons), improved others.
Kirby's Epic Yarn - the video game equivalent of cotton candy. It's light and easy, but still fun. Great art direction.
Scribblenauts - puzzle game, haven't played it a whole lot, but fun so far.
Goldeneye 007 - Remake of the original king of console FPS's. Haven't played it much yet.

Re: Video Games - Watcha playin'?
I played a bit of NFS: Hot Pursuit over the last week. As the game makers say it's a throwback to the first NFS game, a game I owned and played incessantly. The problem with HP is that even though the roads are technically different the corners are all laid out the same way so there's fuck all variation between races. I would leave this one alone and play Underground instead.

Anyone actually planning to try DCUO? I'm hearing it's pretty bad.

What have you heard? I heard that is very much an action MMO, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance, which pretty much means I'm not gonna try it....yet.

Re: Video Games - Watcha playin'?
I liked Marvel Ultimate Alliance quite a bit, but I don't think it's the sort of gameplay I want in an MMO. The complaints I've heard pretty much boil down to:
1) Combat is extremely button-mashy.
2) There's not a lot of content on the PvE side.
3) PvP is horribly unbalanced.

Re: Video Games - Watcha playin'?
I just got Assassin's Creed II and The Force Unleashed for my xbox, picked 'em up used for cheap. Assassin's Creed II is way fun, I'm enjoying every minute.
The Force Unleashed I haven't been able to play yet, as the only time I haven't saved the receipt from the place I buy my used games in case there's a problem, there is of course a problem. In the form of a large circular scratch on the disk, probably from someone's faulty drive. So, I have to go in and plead my case later this week, see if I can get them to exchange for another used or something.
But seriously, Assassin's Creed II, way fun.

Endgame armor from DCUO. It looks like World of Warcraft vomited all over DC superheroes, but somehow it works for me. More pics at link.

I think the idea is that ninjas are not as badass as Ezio.

Yeah, but it's merely labeled "assassin" and ninjas ARE assassins.

Re: Video Games - Watcha playin'?
Eh, it's even wrong in-universe, since canonically several Assassins would have been members of the groups historically known as ninjas. Hell, in their canon, pretty much every major figure in all of history was either a Templar or an Assassin, so there were definitely some ninjas in there somewhere.
