Re: What's up with you?
Mrs. KA left for NC yesterday for ten days -- her dad is going in for open heart surgery on Monday. When she bought her plane tickets he was scheduled for Friday, but they moved him up because the surgeon said it is going to be long and complicated and he wanted to be well-rested beforehand.

Re: What's up with you?
In other news, the town almost shut down this weekend's colonial encampment at the museum I volunteer at. Skip to the end, two members of the society (and one in particular) have ruffled so many feathers in the town hall / town admins that we are now under a microscope. The encampment is back on, but with a number of restrictions and extra work (like filing an evacuation plan...for tents?) that we have never had to do before. Not surprising, the number of people these two have pissed off corresponds fairly closely to the series of extra hoops that the society has to jump through to get the town to sign off on this.

Re: What's up with you?
Mrs. Angakuk and I are flying to Phoenix on Sunday. My father's memorial service will take place on the following Monday. Although he passed away last December, my mother and sister decided, for various reasons, to delay the memorial service until now.
Since I am a pastor I will be conducting the service, though I would really rather have had someone else do the honors so I could just focus on being the grieving son instead of the grieving son who is also a pastor. Still, my folks supported me financially during college and seminary, so I guess this the about the least I can do by way of paying them back.

We had my dad's memorial party months after his death, it allowed long-distance relatives a chance to think about coming out or not. I thought it was better for the distance in time. Hope it goes well for you.

Re: What's up with you?
Last night, I attended a dinner in NY with a professional group that I get together with twice a year. Drank two scotches before dinner, and a couple of glasses of cabernet with dinner. That much generally doesn't really bother me. But THEN, a friend of mine (former co-worker) who was staying at the Yale Club, around the corner from my hotel invited me to join him for drinks. Another colleague joined us. I had two more Scotches. I didn't realize quite how drunk I was until I got back to my hotel room, and realized that I was going to be sick. (I was.)
This morning, I didn't feel hungover at all.
Until about two and a half hours after I woke up, and after I'd eaten breakfast.
It had been over 28 years since I'd last drunk to the point of being hungover the next day. It didn't feel any better than I remembered it.
On the bright side, my liver was so busy processing all that alcohol my blood sugars were capital all day.

Re: What's up with you?
Somehow plumbing technology has progressed to the point that it is possible to unclog a drain the same day it's reported. So there's that.

Re: What's up with you?
For Mother's Day, The Little Muffin gave me norovirus. Yesterday, I was able to eat several tablespoons full of applesauce at a go and the stomach cramps would be almost entirely gone after an hour or two. And I barely even barfed today at all.
So who dares me to eat a calzone? I really really want a spinach and mushroom calzone.
(His overwhelming guilt is actually a p. good Mother's Day gift. If I wanted grandkids, this would be a good opportunity to ask, but I really just want a calzone.)

A shrimp fajita calzone with alfredo sauce sounds like the perfect remedy.

Re: What's up with you?
After a month of no restrictions and feeling completely fine, my foot decided to ache in weird ways this weekend. On Sunday I had the feeling that something sharp and pointy was sticking me where the surgery was, but there was nothing in my shoe or sock or foot to explain it. Then the whole thing ached that night like it hasn't in ages. Starting last night and again today my shin on that leg feels like it has gone to sleep when I sit at my desk. I don't know whether to worry or not.

Re: What's up with you?
I'm in the DFW airport for what I think is the first time since September, 2004, when I traveled to New York to meet Allan (WinAce) in person. He sent me a text with one of his characteristically cheesy and endearing poems, including the line, "I'll steal your heart in person, too..." Which he did.
Tomorrow, it will be 10 years since he and I "met" online and had our first real chat. We spent a ridiculous amount of time on AIM that first day, like 6 hours or something. He had me laughing so damned hard I might have peed a little. Anyway, the date stands out pretty strong in my memory because it also happened to be my mom's birthday, and I neglected to call her in a timely manner (hey, I was busy!) so she called me and chewed me out for that. It was worth her wrath, though. So worth it.
Also, I have known some of you uckers for more than a decade. Crazy.

I am working up my safety plan for Kiddo traveling with old ladies to the big city. I didn't want all his personal info visible to all and sundry, so I made him a QR code that links to a Google Doc. Mom will have it all as well, but this is for him to carry on his person.
