If everything keeps going the way it is this year in my world, I'm going to be in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the worst/best case of PTSD... EVER.
The closest tornado to here was about 30 miles away. But, we've had plenty of tumult without them. NumbaOneDottir was beaten up by her boyfriend (hit with fists and a pipe and kicked), had to have emergency surgery to close up a ruptured intestine, was hospitalized for nearly two weeks, now has a scar from stem to stern to show for it. While hospitalized boyfriend and a friend went on a burglary spree while driving her car, got caught, now face burglary, as well as assault with a deadly weapon charges, and an ICE hold for overstaying a visa. Then, right after daughter came home with us, wife fell down garage steps breaking her arm.

No, srzly. I'll be out for 2 weeks, one week in Anaheim, then a week in the Gay Area to visit fambly. My Intarweb access will be infrequent at best. See you fucking hipsters later.

It seems I have a job offer. A bit of a change from the last fifteen years in IT, the official title for the position is "North American Tank God."
With a job title like that, how can I turn it down?

I got a call last Friday that from my step-father in that my biological mother had died. It threw me and I'm still not quite settled yet, but it hurt far less than when my cats died this year.
In other news, I have a 2003 Subaru Legacy GT to replace the car that got totaled a month or whatever ago (I can't - and don't care to - keep track anymore).
Since I'm still not back on my yet, Imma take a ride in my new/used car tonight or tomorrow .. with the moon roof open, of course.
Long ass story condensed, names withheld to protect the innocent.
After the US budget committee shit the bed and a lot of us with VA benefits got fucked, I needed work even though I hadn't finished my current (GI Bill funded) semester. So the last few months I've been quite unsuccessfully looking for such.
Found it, with the help of nearly everyone I know (seriously, strings have been pulled in nearly every direction - from someone with a family link into the job itself to my own family helping me get here) - in Albany Fucking New York of all places - along with something I never thought I'd find again.
1500 miles later I actually have a reason to live again.
It's been a very, very good month. Oh, and I'm moving.

Made it through surgery A-OK. Took about two hours longer than anticipated, the tumors were large and ornery, and fought valiantly to be left alone. But my doctor subdued them all, removed every last recalcitrant one he could find, and stapled me back together. I'm a whiz at recovery, so I'm already back home. No more periods for me!
It's amazing how much better I feel, even after have been sliced open.
busy with the long, detailed process of the
project equilvalent of "prepare the surface
before applying paint" to turn the homestead
into a rental, the outbuilding into the homestead
and start making/saving money until such time
as this leviathan of a property might actually be
sold to a young and growing family... which we
were when we moved here with our two chidren
22 years ago... the youngest of the younger two
born here in this house has turned 18, leaving me
sans minor children for the first time since 1985...
(believe me, if there WERE a party to invite you to
you would SO be invited... i had a beer and watch
the brewers beat the diamondbacks 5-2)
the course work i have to take to be licensed as
a massage therapists starts in just over a month....
all night courses except for the all day saturday
interruptions... so my days and nights for the next
9 months or so seem to be spoken for....
not so much a farewell, but a see you later....
i find i can hardly bear to sit at the computer of late
and when i do, it is basically to look for a service
manual or an instructional youtube on how to do
something needing doing....
i am confident that all you ff-ers will still be here
when i find my way back... you are some of the
cleverest and funniest folk whose party i have
had the pleasure of crashing....
if you plan a trip to wisconsin's north coast
bring your tool belt and stop in for some
good food and gorgeous vistas....
now go fuck yourselves and leave me the hell alone
oh wait, i dont have to say that anymore as was noted
i am freed from the liabilities of minor children!!
i kid because i really do miss hanging out here but
there aint no way around it... so behave and stay well!

I am allowed to resubmit my assessment as my overall score just fell short of passing. I missed the first half of the course though so the best I could do was 50% really; I got 38% overall so they are letting me do the last two assessments again.
Fucking magic, there is a God!
Now I just have to actually learn how to do ODEs/PDEs properly and I'm in like flynn.
And I didn't even have to shag the Teacher. Makes a change.
YOW!
Oy. To recap. The big things are: They had layoffs at the book store in February, I did not get it, but it got bad at the shop. My mother died in February very suddenly. I don't want to talk about it, really.
The doctors came as close to saying "you do not have cancer any more" as they will get while still maintaining the necessary CYA thingers ("at this point, there is no sign of recurrence' that kind of thing) - I got to tell my mom *that* at least.
In June I left the bookshop and moved to the hotel. It's an adjustment, and there is still some fallout from the stupid horrible woman who had been "running" it, but the end of that is in sight at least. I am not going to go into all the stupid horrible she has committed on other fronts because it is stupid, horrible, and also - really - tiresome. I don't know how some people live with themselves. I try to have sympathy, but then I just give up and think: Damn. How stupid and horrible. Glad it's not me.
I am starting to write again. Also to read. It's been a while since I *finished* a book. I think being in the book business just cynified me as far as the written word went. Seeing the Absolute Tripe which would get printed and then heavily promoted put me off books for a long while. Not so handy. But there *is* a fair bit of good stuff, and I am able to find that and am about to have some time to actually read it, as well.
I am now an aunty to a beautiful, healthy, sweet little girl. My bro and sis-in-law are over the moon. The delivery was easy, but the inducement was hard. It took over 48 hours.
Not really. But I have been skating through classes and not really giving vet school the love it deserves, so I am not even going to be keeping up my amazing 2.79 posts (or 7.44 thanks!) per day. I will still keep up with a few threads.
We just had an Earthquake about 10 minutes ago, the whole house shook for about 30 sec. On the news it was reported at about 6.0 somewhere in Va. and was felt all up and down the east coast.
Thursday I sat down and spoke with a professor and he has graciously offered me a chance to work in his lab next semester for credit and do some undergraduate research. I will most likely either be working with salmonella or H. pylori.
I am in some small way one step closer to getting into gradschool and to becoming a scientist.
I have my first full-time job in some number of years. And it even relates to what I did my degree in! Starting with mostly weed control on conservation-type projects, but there's going to be potential to advance into higher level stuff down the track. And I'm really pleased to have the stability of a regular verging-on-halfway-decent income.
